The GRU hacked into Jared Kushner's iPhone. Dutch military intelligence (MIVD) then recruited a GRU spy who gave them access to the hacked phone. What MIVD discovered was that Kushner had access to two bank accounts --one Azerbaijani, the other Israeli --where Saudi Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman and Emirati ruler Mohammed bin Zayed deposited money. It sounds like a slightly far-fetched episode of "Slow Horses," but it's real. And it proves just how eye-poppingly corrupt this administration was and continues to be as its "special envoy" decides the fate of tens of millions in Europe in the Middle East. Simply incredible reporting by Matthew Cole, drawn from his new book on Kushner. vanityfair.com/story/jared-k…

This isn't talked about much in the media but there's been massive fires burning in Indonesia since mid-summer and much of the rest of Southeast Asia has been looking like this 👇 for weeks. The "haze", as it's called, has gotten so bad in Malaysia that the King just called for schools to close (nst.com.my/news/nation/2026/…)

NEW: According to a bombshell report in the New York Times, Anthropic co-founder Chris Olah threatened to walk out of Pope Leo XIV’s AI encyclical launch in May because the pope rejected the idea that machines can be conscious. Olah’s team then privately lobbied the pope’s advisers “to take the possibility of model consciousness seriously.” Pope Leo XIV held firm. For months, Anthropic has wined and dined theologians and religious scholars under nondisclosure agreements, hoping they would bless the idea that Claude has moral standing. thelettersfromleo.com/p/nyt-…

Dario has written that we need to “pace the frontier,” and Sam has agreed. People may be surprised by my response: go ahead. You guys are the frontier. By any reasonable metric — market share, revenue growth, model capability — the two of you have a duopoly on frontier intelligence. You’ve also claimed the lead is widening because of recursive self-improvement. I don’t see what you see in the lab. If the unreleased models are scary enough that you think you should slow down, I support your decision to be responsible. But stop pretending you need anyone else’s permission. Stop pretending antitrust law has to be suspended so you can form a cartel. Stop pretending you need a regulatory approval process that supersedes product liability. Stop pretending METR is independent when it is intertwined with Anthropic’s investors and staff. Stop pretending you need those same evaluators to police competitors who aren’t even at the frontier. Most of all, stop pretending the motivation to slow down is purely altruistic. You face massive product-liability exposure if your products enable a truly damaging cyberattack. The market already punishes models that behave in unpredictable or unauthorized ways. After the Hugging Face episode, it is simply good business for OpenAI and Anthropic to trade some raw power for reliability and predictability. Call it alignment if you want. It is also just giving customers what they want. Pacing the frontier would also create breathing room for a more intelligent conversation about regulation than Bernie Sanders’ “shut it all down.” China is very unlikely to join a global agreement, as you know, and that has to be taken into account as well. So go ahead and pace the frontier. You are the ones setting it. The easiest way not to build superintelligence is for you to agree not to build it. Demanding your preferred regulatory framework as the price of that will look like blackmail of the public and the political system. So just do it. If you do, you’ll buy goodwill for the next conversation. If you don’t, we’ll know this was just another bid for regulatory capture — or an election-season psyop.

If you care to know what really happened here, it was actually a mistake by the organizers of the event - the Seoul Defense Dialogue hosted by South Korea's Ministry of National Defense. And this is according to Yonhap, South Korea's national news agency (koreancenter.or.kr/news/arti…) so you can't possibly have a more authoritative source. As they write, the note was given to the organizers of the event by a military attaché at the Chinese Embassy in South Korea but it was never meant to be delivered to Teodoro on stage. Direct quote from Yonhap's reporting, translated from the original korean: "the staff member [who received the note] misunderstood it as a note delivered from the Philippine side and handed it as-is to Minister Teodoro who was speaking on stage." So there you are: a mistake by a Korean staffer. What I suspect did happen is the most banal thing imaginable: a Chinese embassy staffer stationed in Seoul, attending a forum held in his own city, heard the Philippines making claims about the South China Sea that contradicted China's official position, and he simply did the job of embassy staff: re-stating his country's standard position and asking a conference staffer to pass it to the Philippine side. The note isn't even addressed to Teodoro, it's not addressed to anyone, it's just a boilerplate statement that restates China's public position on the matter. This is the type of stuff that happens all the time: breaking news, the job of an embassy is to make sure your country's position is on the record when it's being discussed. That's not "intimidation" or "wolf warrior diplomacy," that's just diplomacy. In this case, the only reason we hear about it is because a Korean staffer delivered it to the wrong place at the wrong time, and also, of course, because the media are all too ready to frame anything China does - including a staffer's routine note being misdelivered by a Korean employee, as acknowledged by Korea's news agency - as sinister, because that's what the narrative demands.
WATCH: A Chinese military attaché passed a note to the Philippine Defense Secretary while he was speaking at a Seoul defense forum — restating that the 2016 South China Sea ruling is "illegal, null and void." Teodoro read it aloud to the room, then responded line by line. On "no binding force": "Because you don't want to be subjected to UNCLOS." On China not accepting the ruling: "Of course, because you lost." In Filipino he added: "Show a little decency, have a little shame." The audience applauded. He called it "actual coercion, bullying and aggression" and kept the note as a "memento."

I agree. Each city has its own charm with different cultural sites to see. Buildings and streets are clean and in good repair. Also, people are polite, hard-working, and respectful. I feel safe, so enjoy going to China.

Let me set the record straight. Former Vice Chairman of the CMC, Zhang Youxia's main charge was "Undermining the Chairman Responsibility System" within the Central Military Commission. Chairman Xi asked the CMC to do something, they, due to vested interests did not perform the task given to them. AKA insubordination. It has nothing to do with "nuclear secrets" or any foreign countries. So what is this task? A task so important and consequential? It's Taiwan. If Generals has their own personal vested interest on the line to not do something, when the Chairman ordered them to, then that's insubordination, that's forming cliques opposing to the strategic direction decided by the Party. Old generals are not the most valuable asset in a military, if the top brass needs new blood to get the job done, then we will simply find those new blood. Those who dare, those who are capable, those who are aligned with the Party's strategic decision.
