For decades economic development has relied on tax breaks and subsidies for the largest corporations, a trickle-down approach that too often falls short. @NYCMayor and @NYCEDC are charting a new path. In the first deal of its kind in NYC history, the public is investing $30 million in a quantum lab - in exchange for three board seats and 15% of the revenue generated from technology it creates. And if any firm coming out of the lab merges, gets acquired, or IPOs, the city gets a payout. When public dollars are invested, the public should share in the wealth and innovation those investments create. nytimes.com/2026/10/14/nyreg…

“The payments made it feel like my 10 problems turned to nine. I had more time to think about the life I wanted to start living.” That’s what one #GI participant told the @nytimes this week, which followed three people receiving cash over the course of a year. The article asks whether guaranteed income could help address AI-driven job losses. But what emerges is a much bigger story about the power of cash, not just as a lifeline during difficult times, but as a way to give people more stability, choices, and control over their lives. For participants, cash meant help with groceries, rent, and everyday expenses. But it also meant being able to afford things that brought comfort and dignity, like clean laundry, swimming classes, and a family trip to an amusement park. These experiences show how cash can give people the breathing room to think about what they want for themselves beyond their immediate needs. At a time when families are struggling with rising costs and policymakers are considering how to navigate an increasingly AI-driven economy, these stories are a powerful reminder that the case for cash is already clear. Cash can help people meet their needs today while giving them greater freedom to build the lives they want, beyond just getting by. Read their stories: nytimes.com/2026/10/12/techn…

The Republican Governor of Kansas endorses Democrat Adam Hamilton for Senate: "Today our senator isn't fighting for the people back home either. That's why I'm endorsing Adam Hamilton for the United States Senate... Kansas needs a senator willing to stand up and say this isn't working. We need someone who listens and will fight to end the chaos and corruption in Washington."

The video shows former Kansas Gov. Mike Hayden (R, 1987-1991) endorsing Democrat Adam Hamilton, not the current governor. Kansas's sitting governor is Democrat Laura Kelly. ksn.com/news/your-loca… ballotpedia.org/List_of_curren… kansascity.com/opinion/articl…

Big Fan is a romance novel in which a political strategist falls for her teenage pop star crush — and spends the book trying to get him to endorse a guaranteed income campaign. It’s been called “Highbrow/Brilliant” by New York Magazine and praised by Vogue and EW. It’s also lowkey one of the best pop-culture arguments for guaranteed income in recent memory. The novel takes the policy seriously and portrays its political challenges honestly. When @kategage gave me a copy of the beautiful 831 Stories book, I devoured it in one setting. @zanopticon nailed the arguments and made them wayyyyy more fun to read than I could’ve imagined. And I delighted in seeing so much of our work at @EconomicSecProj in the pages! So I finally wrote her a fan letter 💌 and we hatched this talk. I can’t wait to discuss what social change and politics can learn from romance novels at the beloved Local Economy in North Oakland on Saturday, October 17… and hear about her new book Vacation Self too. 🚨 100+ Kansas Republicans just launched Republicans for Hamilton, a statewide coalition backing Adam for U.S. Senate. The list includes former governors Bill Graves and Mike Hayden, a former Senate President, a former House Majority Leader, and Roger Marshall’s primary opponent.

Brilliant video from Kansas Governor Laura Kelly talking about her "constituent" Zach Lahn, the Republican running for governor of IOWA who actually lives in Kansas. One of the most brutal political owns I've ever seen. Kudos to all involved.

🚨California just took a major step toward tackling corporate power and the affordability crisis. Gov. Newsom signed a new law updating California’s antitrust laws for the first time in more than a century, following a multi-year campaign led in part by our affiliate, @ESP_Action, alongside a broad coalition of advocates, organized labor, and small businesses. California’s antitrust framework had remained largely unchanged since 1907, even as corporate power and the economy transformed around it. The new law gives state enforcers stronger tools to take on monopoly power and closes loopholes that have allowed dominant corporations to block competitors, squeeze small businesses, suppress wages, and consolidate their power. Amid an affordability crisis, as families struggle to afford groceries, housing, healthcare, and other everyday essentials, taking on concentrated corporate power is a critical part of making life more affordable. More competition means more choice for consumers, a fairer shot for small businesses and workers, and less power for dominant corporations to set the terms of our economy. This is a huge win for Californians and for everyone fighting for an economy that works for people, not just the most powerful corporations. Congratulations to everyone who helped make it happen.🎉 Read our full statement: economicsecurityproject.org/…

"Gouged" is OUT! I started this book angry about all the ways corporations are ripping us off. I finished it hopeful, because once you know how they're doing it—you can start to fight back. Thanks to everyone who has been part of this. Now go read it.
