So many great talks at IUSSI Lausanne thus far! And now that my talk is done, I may relax and enjoy the rest of the meeting and the included tour 🏞🚢😎
The IUSSI European meeting just started in Lausanne and I'm delighted to be here and excited about all the days ahead!
We don't know much about bee parasitism. Paulo explored this uncharted world in his thesis. In his 1st PhD article (my 1st as last 🥲). We investigate expression differences between host & parasite during reproduction. Teaser: TEs might be involved!

When we talk about global oligarchy this is what we are talking about: Today, the top 1% throughout the world own more wealth than the bottom 95% of humanity combined. Children go hungry. Billionaires buy yachts and take joyrides on rocket ships. Change must come.

Two years ago I was doing fieldwork working with this amazing model system, my Twitter post went viral! Today, the paper on nest architecture in Scaptotrigona depilis is out in @CurrentBiology! You can download the full paper here authors.elsevier.com/c/1inWS… – at Louvain, Belgium
Amazing #comb shape! My fieldwork in Brazil is ongoing, still two months left to collect data on Scaptotrigona nest architecture. Wish me good luck 🤞🏻🇧🇷 #fieldwork #stinglessbee #research #phdlife

Our new paper is out today in @Nature , showing that bumblebees possess the cognitive capacity for some of the key ingredients of cumulative culture, previously though to be unique to humans

You have until February 15th to submit your work. We look forward to seeing you in Lausanne 🐜🐝
We have recently uploaded on NCBI a high quality stingless bee reference genome. Besides describing this assembly, in the preprint we compare it with other corbiculate, showing syntenies, gene changes, and exploring the evolution of venom genes.

We are looking forward to having a diverse set of speakers, from multiple career stages, nationalities, and gender balanced. So, all applications are very welcome! Help us to build a very enriching symposium! #ICE2024 #SocialInsectsGenomics #Kyoto

Check this! We compared the heat resistance and heat-shock response of ants from desert and temperate regions. Guess what? Desert-adapted ants have two responses (reactive or constitutive) and do not DE thousands of genes like temperate ants when heated.

We'll be organising a symposium on Genomics in Ecology & Evolution of Social Insects. Consider joining us in Tokyo!
