Yesterday I spoke about how ridiculous it is that the Irish think they get the high moral ground. This is a keeper. "Close to 60% of adults think EU countries would come to Ireland’s aid if the State was attacked, only a third think Ireland should be prepared to militarily support another EU country if it is attacked." thejournal.ie/more-in-common…

In a thousand years, nobody will care about the distinction between British, American, Australian and such. Much of the world outside of Western Europe already doesn’t and often never has. Only serious historians will bother to talk about the minor differences, think “the Greeks”

Obviously this is dumb because Cohen’s entire routine is caricature, and if you enjoyed it in the past there’s no reason to get all precious about it now. But that’s not actually what bothers me about him. If you watch his movies, the main butt of the joke is rarely the person or group he’s impersonating—it’s not Kazakhs in Borat or gay people in Brüno, for example, except incidentally. His real target is the normal people he fools in his interviews. This is actually what makes Cohen’s work more interesting than straight caricature, and also more genuinely disturbing to me. If you really wanted to mount an interesting critique of him, instead of this bargain-bin automated stock chatter belched up semi-consciously by social media drones, it would be this: The real nature of Cohen’s comedy, the thing that gives it its lingering bite, is inverse caricature. The people who really end up depicted as a childish finger-paint cartoon of their worst selves are the chuds and the rubes whom he proposes to fool and expose. Some of them are public figures behaving in truly abominable ways. Fair enough. But often they’re normal decent people who don’t spend their whole lives inhaling media commentary and don’t have anything like Cohen’s knowing sophistication to protect themselves from looking foolish. Often they’re very nice to what they think is an odd stranger. Often they reach out with enormous grace. You get the impression that in 99 per cent of the actual interactions they’re called upon to perform, these people are vastly superior morally to Cohen, and probably to you or me. Some of them are probably better people than us. But Cohen’s huge wealth and fame depends on catching them out in their blind spots and limitations, which are more vulnerable than the ones we in the know have learned to hide with our faddish affectations. We all have such limitations, and yes, they’re always funny, but is it a little petty and small of Cohen to constantly ridicule them in others while making himself the knowing hero, the genius of comedy? I don’t know, I laugh too. But it makes me a little queasy. That is the sort of thing we could have an interesting conversation about if we had a culture instead of a pre-fabricated set of modal stock outrages prepared for us via algorithm.
Backlash is growing against Sacha Baron Cohen’s Ali G following the release of the first trailer for “Ali G: Who Iz I?”: • Critics accuse Ali G, seen wearing fake dreadlocks and a Rastafarian hat and discussing his desire to be an “absent” father, of being an “outdated” and “racist” caricature • @newscord_org launched a campaign urging cinemas worldwide not to screen the film, accusing Cohen of using satire as a “cover for enforcing racist stereotypes” • The site posted a reply from Picturehouse Cinemas saying it would not screen the upcoming mockumentary to fuel its narrative, but Variety understands the exhibitor’s response was standard and no decision has been made Read the full report by @alexritman: wp.me/pc8uak-1lHG6D

I will not watch The Odyssey. Not because it replaces heroic Bronze Age ethos with cringe Californian psychobabble. Not because of cringe America DEI casting Not because the costumes are laughably inaccurate. Because Nolan films have boring, convoluted plots intended to appeal to midwits. The cinematography is as boring as the dialogue. I wanted to punch the little airplane screen when watching Oppenheimer on a flight. Repulsive to all of my senses (except scent). In 2010 my housemate raved about Inception and insisted I go and see it. My opinion of him dropped severely when I saw it. Screenslop for the masses. "ooh what if dream inside a dream?" So deep, man. The batman films had some unintentionally hilarious dialogue and worked better for Nolan, because capeshit is within his abilities. The classics are not.

Afternoon Mr Harvey. Do you reckon you'd be standing for Parliament wearing a bin on your head or spending a Monday frantically refreshing Twitter for any mention of your name if your career as a comedian had actually panned out the way you'd hoped?

Who does it ultimately serve when Restore attacks Reform, losing them support? In the event Reform drop ~5-7% in a General Election, due to Restore, they'd be forced into a coalition with the Tories to stop a socialist coalition Last year Cyabra ran a report into Lowe's sudden social media boost. You don't become an overnight sensation online with only 8% name recognition The report revealed a sophisticated Bot operation: cyabra.com/blog/online-manip… Who has the money and motive to do such a thing? Around the same time Rupert and I had a long phone call. He told me the Tories were desperately courting him. Or seemingly him, them This was not a secret. Read for yourself. It suggests he will 'work for' the Tories: thesun.co.uk/news/33989923/t… I've no idea who at the same time told @elonmusk that Farage should be replaced by Lowe. That's the final missing piece of the puzzle Now, back in 2019, when we were MEPs and Boris called the election, Lowe collaborated on a list with the Tories called 'Men And Measures' with Dougie Smith. It was a list promising peerages, knighthoods and positions to Brexit Party candidates to stand down. My colleague Robert Rowland blew the whistle to me I called it out on Question Time and handed files to the Met Police youtu.be/R20EnPQwPQ8?si=gXAK… Lowe became the first Brexit Party candidate to step down in Dudley North just before nominations closed and Farage was due to hold a big event there politicshome.com/news/articl… Ask yourself today Does Lowe criticise the Tories? Or just attack Reform? Is Restore standing in Aberdeen South where Tories are putting in loads of resources? Or just Makerfield, where they only target Reform voters? How come Tories are silent on extreme elements of Restore - the only party to be so? Why did Kemi give Lowe a Committee appointment? bbc.co.uk/news/articles/cy40… Tory Peer Lord Agnew donated £20k to Lowe in 2025 consolidate.org.uk/database/… This may all be circumstantial, but it's clear Lowe still has close connections with the Tories, begged to be part of them, but instead decided to make a party to attack Reform politicshome.com/news/articl… It is fact that the party to ultimately benefit from reducing Reform support is The Tories. It's the only way they might be able to get close to power by ensuring Reform cannot form a majority government. To do that, they needed a vehicle to go after Farage Without a majority in Parliament, Reform won't be able to do anything they have proposed. Leaving the ECHR, deporting illegals and foreign criminals, cracking down on Islamism, overhauling immigration. The Lords, Commons, activist lawyers, civil service, will try to block everything unless Reform have a big enough majority to hold their nerve. If they're forced into.a pact with the Tories to stop a hard left coalition, it means everything would have to be passed by the Tories. The same bloody people would still be in power. The establishment wins, yet again. I know some Restore fanatics are fooled into thinking Reform is 'controlled opposition'. I suspect the opposite is true I write this not because I'm working for anyone, nor have an axe to grind nor have gone mad, nor have I been promised anything, nor am I having a sordid affair I know things others don't know because I'm one of vanishingly few people who had a front row seat for the past 6 years I know the people involved, and I know how politics works I want my country to get the radical change it needs. Lowe stands in the way of that. And I suspect, not by accident, joining the dots above

Unless I'm much mistaken, we're basically paying people to come here from overseas and exist in our country solely so they can inflate the cost of housing, which we also pay for, and it's all just to keep pensioners and the rentier class afloat
