When you're a parent going through cancer treatment, self-care is usually the first thing to go.
This International Self-Care Day, a reminder: it isn't one more thing on your list. It's what makes the rest of the list possible 🧵
You cannot pour from an empty cup. Self-care is how you make sure there's something left.

Nankind is here to support and our programs are free, regardless of income or background 💛
Before talking to your children about a diagnosis, check in with yourself first. You don't need all the answers.
Children don't need a perfect parent, they need a loving, honest one who's willing to be present.
Relational self-care means defining what help looks like and asking for it specifically, setting boundaries where you need to, and letting your children be part of the journey in age-appropriate ways.
Emotional self-care starts with naming what you're feeling, even just to yourself. Fear, grief, anger, guilt, these aren't signs you're coping poorly. They're signs you're human.
Physical self-care means honouring rest instead of pushing through it, staying hydrated, and eating enough, not perfectly.
Your body is doing something enormous. It needs recovery time to do it well.
If you're a parent facing cancer, you don't have to pretend you're fine.
What you're feeling makes sense. A few ways to start managing it 👇
