Unfortunately, there is still controversy on the basic idea that you need to understand the disease in order to offer a solution.
Instrumentalism exist in oncology - “shut up and target mutations” - guacamolists -
But we want to understand.
This seems the right path:
A new (~2013!) idea for why existing approaches aren't leading to cancer cures.
This is the first I'd heard of it even though I know some of the people concerned.
Research based on this idea should be funded even if they can tick none of the boxes.
