I am the only Boricua graduate student in my department. Almost a month ago, I wrote the following message in response to another email circulated internally after Hurricane Fiona hit Puerto Rico. I didn’t have the capacity to engage with people but had a lot I wanted to say.

This is what is now being proposed, not yet brought to the bargaining table with the UC. Wish means we could get an even shittier deal from the UC. This was passed without consultation of union membership. Disappointed with the lack of transparency and democracy. #FairUCNow
Yesterday our union outlined what they call “significant progress” passing a new wages propossal for the UC. They went down from a $54k to now a $43k annual salary, and their is no mention of having a COLA (cost of living adjustment). Workers are furious. #UAWstrike #FairUCNow
