#DYK the world already produces enough food to nourish everyone? Yet 645 million people still go hungry, and 2.69 billion can’t afford a healthy diet. In TL, too many children still grow up malnourished. The choices we make every day shape the world we live in. #WorldFoodDay

The Election Commission of India is under fire like never before. The SIR has struck 13 crore names off draft rolls, putting the EC at the centre of intense public debate over its role in deciding who gets to vote — and who doesn’t. HOWEVER, what nobody knew: through that same period, some of the sharpest questions were being asked from inside. Out today, after months of work. Our #ExpressInvestigation 🧵 (1/10)

We can debate ad nauseam the casteist slurs allegedly used and a teacher’s academic credentials. But the more fundamental question is where we, as a society—and IIT Bombay in particular—failed a second-year engineering student. Did we fail him by leaving him alone after communicating, whether gently or harshly (the truth is yet to emerge), that he faced a six-month suspension? Does IIT Bombay not have counsellors on its rolls, especially during examination time? Could teachers not have taken turns to stay with him until his parents or other family members arrived? In schools, a child who falls ill or vomits is not simply left alone. The first-aid room staff takes over, and the child is cared for until a parent arrives. Why should the response be any different in a college, where students may be adults but are often still dependent on their families for financial and emotional support? Wouldn't you or I, as parents, want someone kind and compassionate to be around our child in their darkest hour, especially if we are unable to be around? If only a watchful, SENSITISED soul had been around that boy...

They come up with 100s of ways to punish citizens. And zero ways to punish politicians, bureaucrats and government officials. Of the people? By the people? For the people? No. Screw the people.

When Anna Hazare staged his so called protest, movie stars flew to Delhi to cheer him on. Why are they ignoring Sonam Wangchuck who Bollywood has immortalised onscreen? Because it was easy to call a democrat like Manmohan Singh names. Not so easy now, is it?
Why isn’t Kiren Bedi, Prashant Bhushan, Arvind Kejriwal, Amir Khan etc join Sonam Wangchuck? They all were drumming to the fake Anna Hazare Scam Andolan?

The media loves excitement. So "wife and paramour kill husband" used to be common sensationalist headlines back in the day. The words have changed a bit but the thrill remains. Rest of the time: woman dies, woman murdered, woman raped etc. God knows by who. So yawn common.

"Can I donate blood?" 🩸 Short answer: YES! If you match the guidelines on the images below, you’re good to go. According to the WHO, we only need 1% of the population to donate annually to keep our blood supply safe and reliable. #WorldBloodDonorDay

Tamil Nadu's coasts are rich with mangroves, seagrasses and tidal marshes, but data gaps keep us from realising their full potential as carbon sinks. MSSRF is uncovering those answers with an advanced drone fitted with high-precision multispectral sensors and modern tools. We're mapping these blue ecosystems, measuring the carbon they store, and pinpointing where it's concentrated. ➡️ Read more on Stories of Change: mssrf.org/stories-of-change/… #BlueCarbon #Mangroves #Seagrass #CoastalEcosystems #ClimateAction @nagarajangis

When it's not election time in Bengal, the BJPs scream about non-veg food cooked outside puja pandals, insist Bengalis speak Hindi, abuse Rabi Thakur. When it is, they eat fish (with both hands, yuck) and mix up Netaji and Swami Vivekananda. It's the same non-Bengali nonsense.

Biggest lesson from my international assignment: people value time like currency. We in India need to learn the same. The day we do, we’ll stop normalising politicians blocking roads for rallies & airport trips! And "ladies hai"! That's your response?!
A woman is allegedly seen losing her cool on Maharashtra cabinet minister Girish Mahajan, over the traffic snarl caused by the BJP morcha in Mumbai on Tuesday evening. This was during a protest march on the issue of the Women's Reservation Bill. She was heard asking the minister to protest on a ground, and not hold up the traffic by marching on the streets. The opposition hit out at the BJP while appreciating the woman. - @vinivdvc reports Video: Special Arrangement

In effect, Bengal will be voting without a full and final voters' list. Unprecedented. Goes against the grain of electoral democracy.
