Just an absolutely sociopathic view of mathematics, the value of a human life, and our obligations to each other.
About mathematicians (and people in general) worried about their jobs: this is completely understandable. You used to do something that other people were willing to pay for, and you're not sure if in the future you will still be useful to others.
So... figure out how you can be useful to others! Nobody said it was easy. You're not "owed" a job by society, no matter how many years of training/experience you've invested.
Businesses know this very well; they can be operating for 100 years, and then people stop buying the stuff they make, and they go out of business. Constantly re-evaluate and pivot to making stuff people want!
In math terms: if your field "dries up" (this happens all the time, and it's important to recognize when it starts), move to another; there's always more math to be discovered! We are granted tenure not so that we can sit on our laurels, but so we can take really big risks that may not pan out for a long time (if ever).

Really appreciate the way the @NBA league pass app always remembers that I'm a Mavs fan, but forgets that I have 'hide scores' on, so that when I log on to catch up with the game I instantly get spoilered with the final score splashed across the top of the app

Working at W&J has been a terrific experience, and thankfully I'll only be a few miles up the road from my great friends, colleagues and students there. Excited for what the future holds.
And don't worry, I tasked the student with reading Wiles' proof to make sure the irrationality of 2^(1/3) is never used there...
As soon as someone shows me how I’m gonna make an NFT of all NFTs that are not NFTs of themselves, and that’ll be all she wrote
It’s frankly unbelievable that Baby Driver would be into the Blues Explosion, but never once have heard Beck’s Debra. Took me right out of the film zero stars
Fun activity for your kid. Name a nickname and ask what it’s short for. So far we have:
Ernie → Ernathan

(“wait I thought James was short for Jameswell”)
Al → Aland
Kip → Attakip
Dick → Dindicky (??)
Mo → Mowen

Three police officers went to an *elementary* school in Tennessee & arrested four Black girls.
One girl fell to her knees. Another threw up. Police handcuffed the youngest, an 8 yo with pigtails.
Their supposed crime? Watching some boys fight — and not stopping them. (THREAD)
New on the arXiv: A pair of papers on the rep theory of the 'strange' Lie superalgebra 𝔭(n), with esteemed collaborators Nick Davidson and @jonkujawa. Very proud of this project, begun when I visited Nick & Jon in OK, nearly three full years ago:
In 'Webs of Type P' we introduce diagrammatic type P web supercategories, and show that these give a combinatorial model for the monoidal supercategory generated by the symmetric/exterior powers of the natural 𝔭(n)-module. Lots of pictures.

In 'Howe Duality of Type P' we establish classical and categorical Howe dualities between 𝔭(m) and 𝔭(n). We also give a generators-and-relations presentation for the universal enveloping superalgebra U(𝔭(m)).
