If your workflows rely heavily on Claude or Codex, this is the best time to slowly start optimizing them for local open source alternatives. The current cheap token pricing is not sustainable. Once this bubble bursts, it will become really expensive to do serious things with AI.

If you want to stop being a Junior Developer. Do this: Ship one product completely alone in 30 days, from an empty repo to one real person using it in production. Follow these steps: - Pick one problem you hit this week and name it in a single sentence. - Open an empty repo and nothing else. - Build only the one feature that solves that problem. - Deploy to a real server by day 10, even when it looks rough. - Add a signup so a stranger can use it without your help. - Share the link in 3 communities where those people already gather. - Watch your first user and mark every place they hesitate. - Fix the single biggest blocker within 24 hours. - When the code confuses you at midnight, ask AI to explain how it works, not to write it for you. Building it alone teaches you to write code. Getting one real person to depend on it in production is what teaches you to engineer. Come back and tell me how many days passed before your first real user showed up. Be honest. African engineers must be globally production-ready.

Let me know if you're trying it. Shipping a product alone in 30 days exposes every gap you have, and this book covers all of it. It takes you from picking the one product worth building and putting in front of strangers, to earning users who owe you nothing, all the way to surviving 50,000 requests per second when they finally show up. store.masteringbackend.com/l…

Talking about crypto adoption in Kenya while every major event stays in Nairobi is how you shrink a national story to one city. #cryptoadoption

Role Based Access Control (RBAC) and Feature Based Access Control (FBAC) Is something we were learning and struggling with even before AI bloomed. And it's a important concept that should be in your mind as part of your SDLC process. Most of the pentesters takes advantage of this
Guys, hiding a button doesn’t stop someone from calling your API You have to check whether they’re allowed to perform that action on the server. These are the details I want beginners to learn early. Reduzer covers permissions in the curriculum.

I like building stuff that I actually use. If I don’t get any users, I can still keep it alive for me. I love dogfooding my shit. I’ll always have a user. Me!

I saw a TikTok of a Kenyan dev, probably in his 40s or 50s, ranting about the M-Pesa Till number process, nini nini. Bwana, I felt bad for him. With all that gray hair, may the Lord have mercy on us in old age.

Yesterday a not so sharp boy decided to test for us the number of requests our server can handle per second, running a python script. He was probably so pissed when the app wasn't going down cause the infra is optimised af😂

Mentorship 👨‍💻 Today I had one amazing experience with a senior dev The best part of it all was that he did small programs on my PC Somehow, as I learn C# and AL, and a senior flowing just got me thinking about having a ready development environment The demos were just, godly!

It took me about 5 years to get good enough. But remember learning is a process. I possibly learned concepts in other paradigms that I brought to sys eng.

I have a postgres optimisation issue where two queries would benefit from optimizations. github.com/apalis-dev/apalis… Todos: 1. Optimize both queries 2. Add any new needed indexes If you are looking for a quick oss contribution, this would be a good issue.

One thing students seriously underuse is their student status. People think the benefit ends at cheaper Spotify. Meanwhile that same verification can unlock developer tools, cloud credits, paid courses, domains, software and professional plans that would normally cost hundreds of dollars. Before paying for any tool while you’re still in school, literally search: “[tool name] student plan” You’ll be surprised how often there’s one.
