If you don’t think the OC is playing a massive role in the staleness and inability to create offensively, you’re being naive to the importance of dynamism and game planning. We know the turnovers and lack of separation are issues. Nobody is absolving the players. I’m also far from the first person to point out issues with McDaniels. Creativity, offensive tells, poor route spacing, an option-heavy system, etc. Other teams are simply doing more with modern concepts and installations. It’s been discussed for nearing a decade how McDaniels can struggle to mold an offense around his playmakers. His best offenses came with TB12 under center, who was the ultimate force multiplier. I’ve discussed the floor versus ceiling concept with McDaniels before. Last season, clearly, looks like a bit of a farce in retrospect… and feels eerily similar to the 2019 Patriots, when MANY of us were critical of the exact same thing: a lack of dynamism, limited playmakers and an offense where everything felt unnecessarily difficult. The bottom line is that it is okay to be critical without pretending one person is responsible for everything. It’s a blame pie. The QB, playmakers, personnel decisions and coaching all have a piece of it.
