This captures perfectly why windows and mirrors are so important in our curriculum. #educhat #teachertwitter @Tolerance_org @edutopia
This is going to me make cry

Great advice! #SEL
When patients share a story they’ve told me before, I don’t stop them and say that I’ve already heard that one. Instead I assume that I didn’t hear what they needed me to the last time, and try to listen more deeply and with new ears. Try this with parents / friends / kids ✨

This sums up very well why, and how, we should be doing the work of anti racism in predominantly white schools. #antiracism #teaching

Great article about discussing privilege with students: "Recognizing your privilege does not mean taking the blame for the sins of the past; it means using what you have to help make things better for someone else." #Antiracism #education
The word "privilege" produces knee-jerk reactions. But educators can and should talk to students about it—and they can do so in a way that centers agency and activism rather than guilt. tolerance.org/magazine/desti…
A3: Ensuring that curriculum provides windows and mirrors (the opportunity to see others and the opportunity to see oneself) is important. Teachers can audit the works they read in class to ensure that Black voices are there and being heard. #CAREChatEDU

Adults should be asking how they can help provide these needs to the adolescents in their care - especially now. #SEL #RemoteLearning #COVID19 #edchat
The Five Needs of All Adolescents via @originsonline: 1. Relationship: I want to connect w/ others 2. Autonomy: I want to be independent 3. Competence: I want to experience success 4. Fun: I want to have a good time 5. Safety: I want to feel safe physically, socially/emotionally
Hey Twitter educators….I know many of us are passionate about #edtech but the stark reality is that many families don’t have tech or WiFi at home. Thus virtual learning is not realistic. Let’s be sure to all share just as many non or low tech strategies #remotelearning #edchat

Our district Curriculum Director made a great point - practice "physical distancing" not "social distancing". We need each other - especially now and there are ways to stay connected. #SEL #edchat

What a week! @BowHighSchool switched to remote learning in one day and students are, in fact, learning. What a great lesson in resilience and flexibility - our teachers are modeling great habits of mind.

As many schools head to time away from the classroom and online learning, it's important to remember that for many children school lunch (and breakfast) may be the only meals they can count on; we need to care for these students. #Covid_19 #edchat

Very helpful list - thanks @thomasdaccord
As COVID-19 spreads in the U.S., schools and districts are looking for ways to administer remote learning. To that end, I compiled a brief list of resources available at @EdTechTeacher21: edtechteacher.org/corona-vir… #Coronavirused
This is right on the mark - kindness and empathy make us human and can (and should) be taught. #SEL #edchat

Great ideas for teaching poetry (my favorite unit when I taught English) #engchat #poetry
Poetry can help students express their feelings and foster trust and empathy in the classroom. Here are some activities and tips for teaching poetry from @middleweb . #edchat ow.ly/RRWk50yH858

#SEL is necessary to help prepare our students
Interesting: "If you were to set up a competition between schools that raise test scores and schools that foster 'soft skills,' the soft skills schools would win." #sel #deeperlearning
