Bhavesh Shah got a software engineering job in Germany. Bhavesh & his wife Dhara moved to Berlin in 2018.
A child Ariha was born to them.
In Sept 2021 the child was accidently injured by her grandmother. Police case was filed by the hospital.
German police concluded in early 2022 that Ariha had not been sexually abused and closed the criminal case.
But the German Child Services continued to refuse custody to the parents, saying that the injury was due to negligence.
Bhavesh & Dhara did not receive help in Germany and returned to India.
The child has now spent over three years in foster homes because of a “misunderstanding” on the part of German child services.
Prime Minister Narendra Modi discussed the case of Ariha Shah, an Indian girl in foster care in Berlin, with German Chancellor Friedrich Merz in Jan 2026.
HM Amit Shah has assured that India will secure repatriation of ‘Baby Ariha’s within months as Home ministry is closely monitoring the case in Germany’.
