Pete Hegseth stood on the steps of the Pentagon and told the country exactly where things stand. After nearly two years of ripping out the rot that Joe Biden and Lloyd Austin left behind, the Secretary of War is under attack from the usual suspects: a defeated congressman and his Democrat allies who just dropped sham articles of impeachment. Hegseth’s response was not an apology. It was a declaration.
“As you know, ever since I walked up these very steps nearly two years ago, President Trump’s War Department has never been afraid to lead the way. Just like the President, we don’t back down and that especially applies now.”
He laid out the record without spin. DEI is gone. Failed leaders are gone. Recruiting is at historic levels. Deterrence is back. The department’s core job—warfighting—is once again the priority. The reason the left and the deep-state holdouts hate it is simple: the sacred cows are dead.
“We tore down their sacred cows, one by one, and without apology. DEI is a Marxist ideology built to destroy us, so we crushed it. Diversity is not our strength, our unity is.”
He went further. Men and women are not the same, but they will be held to the same standard. Being trans is a mental illness incompatible with military service. Climate change is not a military objective. Bases will not be renamed to soothe “white rage.” The faith of the Founders belongs in the formations. Generals work for elected civilians, not the bureaucracy. The press is free, but not free to wander classified spaces. Narco-terrorists should be killed, not catch-and-released. Allies should carry weight instead of becoming burdens. The border is a military mission. And when the administration says Iran will not get a nuclear weapon, it means it.
That is the list. That is why the politics of personal destruction have started. Hegseth called it what it is: theater from people whose own policies failed. It did not work on Trump. It will not work on him.
“They attack me, they attack us, because we are effective. It’s not going to work. We will not back down. We put America and the warfighter first, always and without apology.”
He also made the practical ask. Rebuilding a military after years of neglect requires money. A generational investment—at least $350 billion in reconciliation—is needed to stay ahead of real threats. That fight is still live in the lame-duck Congress. Biden and Austin left the department in a hole; digging out takes votes from every patriot willing to cast them.
To the troops he was direct. Ignore the noise. Do the job. The commander-in-chief already showed the standard.
