Juma Mubarak! A late VP of the First Republic, who was dear and a grandfatherly figure, told me: “Life is a struggle from birth to death. What matters most is the impact we make on others.” May Allah grant us wisdom to care, share &support one another. May He make us useful.

Yesterday, those dark clouds over the GBA had many of us expecting rain! But they reminded me of wise words: You can't control the weather or people's opinions. Let go of the need to be liked, to always be right, and to be understood.

Imagine people who share the same religion turning against each other simply because of their differences. Speaking at Masjidul Taqwa, Imam Ousman Jah reminded us that diversity should never divide us. Instead, it should be rooted in knowledge, understanding, and mutual respect.

It’s rainy season in Gambia, yet piles of sand, stones &gravel remain by roadsides for weeks. Ironically, same areas often flood when the rains come. Solution is right in front of us. Not every prob needs a big project, small actions can make big difference. Arrr doi na warr!!

First rains in GBJL Area this morning signal start of the rainy season. 🌧️ Roads looked unusually empty, almost like a weekend. May Allah make this season one of blessings, abundant harvests and prosperity, and protect us from floods, disasters and disease outbreaks. Ameen.

Using a bucket to catch a leaking roof is smart problem-solving. But if you keep replacing buckets instead of fixing the roof, the problem remains. Sometimes, The Gambia feels the same. We manage challenges well, but rarely fix the root causes. Arrr doi na warr!! 🇬🇲

Do you realise that in Gambia, you can buy something at a shop in morning, then return a few hours later to buy exact same thing, only to be told price has changed? You wonder whether prices are attached to ticking of the clock, rising as the hours go by. Arr Doina Warr!!

Normally, “Inna Lillahi Wa Inna Ilayhi Raji’un” makes you think of death. Today, after Zuhur prayers, an Imam asked for prayers for his young daughter, allegedly kidnapped on her way home from school. The mosque fell silent. May Allah grant her safe return. Arrr doi na warr!!
