These are elementary school children who woke up this morning. Who ate their favorite cereal. Who tied their shoes in double knots. Who laughed with friends on the bus. Now more than a dozen are dead. This isn’t normal. It doesn’t have to be this way. It can’t keep being this way

Kids who read for pleasure build better vocabularies, empathy, decision-making, and social skills. They also write better.
Why reading for pleasure is so important——Opinion: Fewer kids read for fun anymore. They’re losing out on more than great stories latimes.com/opinion/story/20…

For all of you who didn't meet your @goodreads' reading challenge this year, I wrote a book titled The Book Whisperer and I didn't meet my goal, either. We are fine. The books will be there when we find our way back to them! Sometimes, readers don't read. #nerdybookclub

“Essay” comes from the French word meaning “to try.” But that spirit of tentativeness is crushed when essays are graded and the point isn't to explore but to snag an A.
Yesterday, we celebrated books and a successful school-wide literacy month with our first annual Literacy Carnival in our FHS Library! Students took shelfies, made book stack poetry, book tasted, book talked, & so much more!!! @FHSDalers 📚❤️ #BookLove #FHSMarvelsAtBooks
Students post-it splashed our reading wall with their favorite book characters, the books that have swooped in and saved the day, and the books they are currently/always marveling at! @FHSDalers #DalersRead #BookLove #FHSMarvelsAtBooks
We raffled off so many wonderful titles, donated by our incredible FHS faculty and staff, and are so grateful for all the sharing of #BookLove this month!

Again, if we keep focusing on kids deficits they will only see themselves that way. Knock this nonsense off. Our students are maneuvering being students in a pandemic and they are demonstrating brilliance. Celebrating them should be our first priority.
Such an important read about capitalizing on students’ real world/digital literacies to foster lifelong readership in our classrooms. Congrats, @LorraineRadice1 !!! ✨📚

We might think they don’t like reading. False. They like reading about things they like.
