Seneca warned that Rome’s bloody spectacles corrupted the people who watched them. A civilization erodes when it cultivates an appetite for executions as a form of entertainment.
Secretary Hegseth’s plan to livestream the Fort Hood execution risks feeding that appetite. The victims deserve justice administered with solemnity. Broadcasting a death diminishes us and is not an effective deterrent. I urge him to reconsider.

Mike Ditka was born Michael Dyczko.
His father was a welder. The family was Polish and Ukrainian, in the coal and steel country of western Pennsylvania, and nobody around them could pronounce Dyczko.
So they changed it to Ditka.
Rest in peace to the legend. His family announced today that Mike Ditka has passed away at 86 years old.
He was born in Carnegie and grew up in Aliquippa, and he got out of there the way kids from those towns got out, which was football.
The Chicago Bears took him fifth overall in 1961 out of Pitt.
Before him a tight end was basically a sixth lineman who caught something once in a while. As a rookie Mike Ditka went for 1,076 yards and 12 touchdowns, which no tight end had ever done, and the job has never gone back to what it was.
He spent six seasons playing for the Bears, and in 1963 he won the NFL Championship with them.
Then he and George Halas fell out over money, and on his way out of town Ditka said the old man threw nickels around like manhole covers.
Halas traded him to the Philadelphia Eagles in April of 1967 for a quarterback.
He finished playing with the Dallas Cowboys. He caught a touchdown in Super Bowl VI. He retired in 1973, Tom Landry put him on the staff, and he got another ring there as an assistant.
And then he wrote George Halas a letter.
He told him he regretted the way it had ended in Chicago. He told him that when he was ready, he wanted to come back and coach the Bears.
Halas gave him the job in 1982.
Here is what Ditka said when he got there.
"Give me three years, and if you walk with me, we'll get to the dance."
They went 15 and 1 in 1985 and beat the New England Patriots 46 to 10 in Super Bowl XX.
Here is how he described that team.
"There are Smiths and there are Grabowskis. We're the Grabowskis."
That is a welder's kid talking.
In 1988 he had a heart attack during the season and blamed it on stress. He was back in weeks. The Bears went 12 and 4 and he was Coach of the Year for the second time.
Chicago fired him in January of 1993.
He took the New Orleans Saints job in 1997 and it did not work. He traded every pick New Orleans had in 1999, plus the following year's first rounder, to move up and take Ricky Williams. They let him go after a 3 and 13 season.
None of that is what anybody is going to remember.
In 1988 he became the first tight end ever put into the Pro Football Hall of Fame. He is the only man who was part of both of the last two championships the Chicago Bears have won, as a player in 1963 and as the head coach in 1985. The Bears retired his number 89 in 2013.
They changed the name so the neighbors could pronounce it.
He turned it into the one that whole city still shouts.

There won't be another Ditka - he was the main event on an 85 Bears team full of charismatic personalities. You got the feeling that he meant everything he said - even directed at fans calling into coach's radio show! Rest easy to an NFL legend.

The cost of doing business with the Trump Admin 2.0 really adds up…
$70,000: the cost of the fireworks at Don Jr.’s wedding, courtesy of a Russian oligarch.
$100,000: the amount that Kimberly Guilfoyle asked a man seeking federal favors to wire to her AmEx.
$35,000 a month: the payments that Republika Srpska makes to the lobbying firm where the White House chief of staff’s daughter is a partner.
$4,000,000+: the total that Republika Srpska has paid Trump allies, including the two men running his $415 million super PAC.
At this point, the Kremlin should really consider asking the Trump Admin if they have a loyalty program.

A little good luck for you. 😽😽🤍
ALT A fluffy black cat with enormous round eyes and two tiny fangs holds a pink flower against a turquoise background. White handwritten text on black strips reads: “Rumour has it, this black cat brings good luck. It may also knock something off your table or give you a gentle bite. But mostly, it’s here to bring you good luck.”

This is absolutely wild per Status — ABC News completely retracted this story like two days ago just totally nuked it. No note, no explanation , no comment. It had been shared by tons of top lawmakers and democratic officials.

If seeing “8647” spelled out in seashells bothers you, but “let them take out Los Angeles” is just a joke, congratulations…you’re in a cult.🤡
Well, he's only doing this because we have a governor's race this election, & I bet he hopes this will get more votes for Terrible Tom Tiffany, whom he endorses! He's said he'd withhold disaster relief from states led by Democrats, which is what we currently have.

This is what I've been trying to tell you!
We know how bad the Repugs are, and the only way to overcome this is 2 things, the truth must be told and we ALL must vote, we must take back the House!
It is then and only then we can begin to overcome the largest mob in the world!
This woman speaks for the majority of us! 🔥🔥🔥
We need reassurance democratic candidates once elected, will proceed with procedures to remove this entire authoritarian regime.
Their commitment to do so, should be a no-brainer!!

Wisconsin families can’t afford to pay the price of a Tom Tiffany Administration.
My plan will lower energy costs and put money back in Wisconsinites pockets.

Oh, ffs! Do we really want it to still be dark out past 8 am from early December to mid-January? Not a good scenario for kids waiting for school buses, or people who work outdoors, like construction, that start at 7 am. There is plenty of outdoor work that goes on year-round.
We can only wish. Unfortunately we know that Congress is too spineless and his cabinet too complicit to take action. 🤬🤬🤬
In a deranged speech tonight, Trump called on Iran to use a nuclear weapon against Los Angeles and San Diego, calling it "a very small price to pay."
The president of the United States encouraged a foreign nation to commit a heinous crime against humanity and incinerate millions of Americans.
The time for the 25th Amendment is long overdue for this murderous madman and traitor.
