Crucial new research shows that the long term natural decline of global CO₂ from 3 to 1 million years ago was 'only' 20 ppm and that methane concentrations didn't change much. Another crucial new study shows that over the same period the whole global oceans cooled by about 2°C, while parts of the Northern Hemisphere (notably Greenland and the Arctic) started to freeze over. The past ~200 years humanity increased the global greenhouse gas forcing about 9,000,000% faster than the natural decline that took about 2 million years. And now the rate of greenhouse gas forcing (that what forces the climate to change) increase has accelerated to 20,000,000% of the natural decline rate (~+0.45 W/m²/dec vs ~-0.45 W/m²/2M yrs). We will talk about this and more tomorrow on Climate Chat. Join us on YouTube. Links below. Subscribe and hit the bell button on YouTube to get a notification when we go live.

I love making these things every year and about 100 hours of work go into them so if you want to treat yourself to a HQ version you can print (or just view) at home you can find that on Gumroad here: tinyurl.com/2p99em7

1/ Get a cup of coffee. In this thread, I'll help you understand Markov Chains. In life, and in investing, we often come across situations where luck/chance plays a major role. And Markov Chains are often a great way to model and analyze such situations.

The mRNA vaccines (Pfizer and Moderna) are kind of brilliant at a science level. I’ve had a few people in my real non-Twitter life ask me to explain how it works so I’m going to try my best here in this thread while I’m waiting for a patient to show.

In case it wasn't clear after the whole Swiss e-voting thing last year: * I will tweet about whatever the fuck I want. * I don't care about your bug bounty. * I won't sign an NDA just to tell you something. * If any of that annoys you then you are free to offer me a contract.

As usual, I am annoyed at terrible reporting of studies on #SARSCoV2 #HCoV19 #COVID19 #coronavirus. Dr. Cheese has a take on the identification of a furin-like cleavage site in the Spike (S) protein.

A SpaceX Falcon 9 is counting down for launch at Kennedy Space Center's Launch Complex 39A. This flight has an inert second stage, and will be deliberately shut down during first stage burn to test the Crew Dragon's inflight abort system.

1/ You’ve heard that ETH went through a disruptive hard fork just over a week ago. This was a painful process that left broken contracts and nodes in its wake. The next hard fork? It’s in TWO WEEKS. Why? Because otherwise the Ethereum blockchain would slow to a crawl. THREAD

@saifedean can crush your power and processing argument. Send these 3 charts to the smartest finance person you know. See what they say. The model is co-integrated with a 95% r^2 value - good luck finding that anywhere. Highest sharpe ratio I've ever seen. Completely uncorrelated

For a "tech" candidate, Andrew Yang has an uncanny knack for forming bad opinions about technology. We don't need PowerPoint in the State of the Union. Blockchain voting is a terrible idea. Robots aren't going to cause mass unemployment.
