New: The ICE officer who shot Wilber Garces-Perez in Austin had been assigned a body worn camera but was not wearing it at the time of the shooting. Another officer with him has partial video from their body camera, but not of the shooting itself, according to 2 DHS officials

Update on Wilber. I had to cancel the hospital visit this morning because they transferred him back to detention.
I was finally able to meet with him by video this morning.
Yesterday, during our press conference, Wilber called his wife and asked to speak to the press. He told us directly that he had been discharged from the hospital just hours after being shot, with the bullet still lodged in his body, and transferred into ICE custody while in severe pain.
THIS IS SHOCKING
Paediatrician Earl Bradley raped and abused 103 children, including babies as young as 3 months old, all while their parents waited just outside the room.
The doctor filmed himself carrying out the sickening attacks on secret cameras.
He would force the terrified children to perform sex acts on him, molest them repeatedly, and sometimes abuse the same child for months or even years.
One of the victims was raped continuously from June 2007 to February 2009.
Another was molested non-stop from November 2008 to November 2009.
They found over 13 hours of horrifying video evidence
He has been jailed for 14 consecutive life sentences plus 165 years.

I have a feeling we’re going to see a wave of unseen 9/11 footage over the next five years.
CCTV that has sat in archives for decades. Private tapes people are finally digitizing. FOIA requests that keep chipping away at government collections. And growing public pressure to release material that has never been seen.
The recent fight over unreleased World Trade Center PATH CCTV is a good example.
Twenty-five years later, it increasingly feels like we still haven’t seen everything.

Senator Collins’ office says we “took the word of someone who pled guilty,” but ProPublica conducted its own investigation of the former CEO’s assertions. We have the receipts.
Our reporters independently corroborated much of the account by former Navatek CEO Martin Kao by reviewing a trove of evidence, legal records and interviewing dozens of people. And we reported that anti-corruption agents at the FBI were asking questions about Susan Collins as recently as late 2024. But after the reelection of President Trump, the FBI and DOJ teams handling public corruption probes were dismantled.

The seven-year-old allegations made against Senator Collins and her staff in this piece are categorically false. There have never been any allegations of wrongdoing by the Collins for Senator campaign, and the campaign was never the target of the FBI investigation.
ProPublica took the word of someone who pled guilty to five counts of money laundering, three counts of wire fraud, one count of bank fraud, and making false submissions to the FEC. As Martin Kao was awaiting sentencing, he began making outlandish charges about the Collins office, deflecting blame from himself and placing it on Senator Collins, including alleging that our office required contributions before taking meetings and engaged in extortion, pay for play, and bribery. The FBI and the Court obviously did not believe Kao, and in 2025 he was sentenced in two separate cases to prison terms of seven years and three years to be served concurrently, as well as an additional five years of supervised release at the end of his prison term.
It is important to note that during the Biden Administration the FBI and the Department of Justice thoroughly investigated the Navatek matter. The Collins campaign cooperated fully with the FBI throughout the investigation, producing all of the documents it requested and serving as fact witnesses in official settings. In response to the allegations in the ProPublica piece, the FBI clearly stated that a suggestion of wrongdoing by Senator Collins or her staff is “totally false.”
These issues were resolved in 2021, and the FBI has not contacted us about Martin Kao since then.

A Mississippi grand jury has decided not to bring charges in the death of Nolan Wells, an 18-year-old Black teenager whose body was found two days after he disappeared during a Fourth of July boating trip with friends.
His death drew national attention after photos of Wells with white friends on the trip circulated online, fueling speculation that his death may have been racially motivated.
Wells’ family is calling for the investigation to continue, saying questions remain about how he died.
