This is today’s GOES-19 full-disk satellite image, and there’s something especially interesting about it this time of year.
Look at the boundary between daylight and darkness—the terminator. We’re now only about five days away from the September equinox, when the Sun will cross the equator and fall officially begins in the Northern Hemisphere.
The equinox occurs at 7:05p CT Tuesday, September 22. At that moment, neither hemisphere is tilted toward the Sun, and the terminator becomes much more nearly a straight line from north to south.
After that, the Northern Hemisphere will continue receiving less direct sunlight and progressively shorter days as we head toward the December solstice. Meanwhile, spring begins in the Southern Hemisphere.
Earth’s 23.5-degree tilt doesn’t change—the Earth’s position in its orbit around the Sun is what creates the changing seasons.
Satellite imagery gives us an amazing way to actually see the geometry behind the seasons.
This may be one of the eeriest - and frankly, most terrifying - 9/11 reconstructions I’ve seen.
The simulation recreates the final moments of American Airlines Flight 11 from the cockpit, essentially showing what hijacker Mohamed Atta would have seen as the North Tower rapidly filled the windshield.
But the audio you’re hearing is real.
Flight attendant Betty Ong, aboard Flight 11, was calmly reporting what was happening inside the hijacked aircraft - crew members stabbed, mace in the cabin, the cockpit inaccessible, and the realization: “I think we’re getting hijacked.”
American Airlines operations specialist Nydia Gonzalez was monitoring Ong’s call and relaying her reports to the airline’s operations center as Flight 11 raced toward New York.
At 8:46 a.m., the aircraft struck the North Tower.
Watching a reconstruction of what the hijacker would have seen while simultaneously hearing the actual voices of the people trapped aboard that aircraft is deeply unsettling.

It has been revealed that the City of Asheville, NC, will reportedly rebuild only 8 houses using the $225 million grant it received from the Trump administration following Hurricane Helene.
That's correct…..Eight.…out of 11,488 damaged homes.
The city allocated only $3 million for home repairs.
Meanwhile, $14.9 million was allocated for “administration.”
That means nearly five times more was allocated for administration than for repairing homes for people affected by the disaster.
And that's not the worst of it….
More than 100 approved families are reportedly currently on a waitlist for assistance that they may never receive.

ON THIS DATE IN 2005: This statement was issued by NWS meteorologist Robert Ricks (from the Slidell office) at mid-morning on August 28, 2005.
At the time, Katrina was a category five hurricane in the Gulf, similar in strength to Camille in 1969. It would make landfall the next day as a category three at Waveland Mississippi. 
Some thought this “doomsday” statement was a hoax. Unfortunately, it wasn’t... as everyone would find out the next day.
