Feedback is not about sizing people up. It's about helping them grow. 78 studies: criticism is more motivating when you (a) meet face-to-face; (b) compare behavior to a standard, not to others; (c) suggest changes to make. People want to improve when it's clear that you care.

On the ground, a rock is just a rock. But when moving at high speed through the atmosphere, a rock becomes a meteor—alive with fire and burning bright. People are not so different. Without activity, we are lifeless and dull. When moving fast and taking action, we come alive.

So critical to differentiate micro-managing v curiosity and label them as such within these approaches. Showed up throughout 🗣 open.spotify.com/episode/0B8…
Insecure arrogance: "I have all the answers. Only I can fix it." Confident humility: "I have many questions. We need to study what broke it." The people to trust are not the ones who project the most confidence. They’re the ones who know the limits of their competence.
"Simple mindset shifts: - I'm not hurt, I'm healing. - I'm not losing, I'm learning. - I was not rejected, I was redirected. Negative things happen. Negative mindsets make them harder." – @JamesClear

In this unique moment, we cannot move forward with relevance if we do not first deeply consider those “questions of larger purpose and collective well-being.” -@willrich45 rss.sd23.bc.ca/CLP/Our%20Inq…
👇When we discuss dreams, we must mention how we’ll impact others and/or our world. Will the organizational mission focus on the individual or on the collective? 🤔

My monthly reflection questions: 1. What were my biggest wins? 2. What were my biggest realizations? 3. What areas am I most satisfied? Least satisfied? 4. What am I going to do more of this month? Less of? 5. What am I thinking about for the upcoming month? Give it a try!

Time in meetings has more than tripled since Feb 2020. Nearly a third of meetings are unnecessary—wasting $25M a year for every 1k people. There are 4 reasons to meet: to decide, learn, bond, and do. If it doesn't serve one of those purposes, cancel it. bloomberg.com/news/articles/…
"The brilliance of the stars would be invisible without the vast darkness of space behind them. Do not wish away the difficult portions of life. They provide the contrast needed to appreciate the joyful moments." –@JamesClear #nofilter

If you're always right, you're not learning. If you're never failing, you're not reaching. The objective is to be right. The objective is to succeed. But if you're always winning, you're undershooting your potential.

The true leader in a group is rarely the person who talks the most. It's usually the person who listens best. Listening is more than hearing what’s said. It’s noticing and surfacing what isn’t said. Inviting dissenting views and amplifying quiet voices are acts of leadership.

If you don't have all the facts yet, you shouldn't have a strong opinion yet. Motivated reasoning is believing what you want to be true. Critical thinking depends on wanting to believe whatever ends up being true. A key to learning is refusing to let your hopes bias your views.
