What is holiness? I get that question frequently since the publication of Free to Be Holy. Here's how it's answered in the book: "God always does what’s right. He always does what he ought to do. For us, then, to be holy is to be formed in such a way that we consistently do what we ought to do—like God does" (3). To be holy is to embody the character of God. And that's the biblical vision for human life, start to finish. More here: amzn.to/40KPDol @OfficialSeedbed

Has Noah’s Ark really been found? You may have seen the headlines about new archaeological evidence in Turkey that supposedly points to the location of Noah’s Ark. But does the evidence actually support the claims? In this episode of Theology Project, @lgstone, joins the conversation to help us sort through it. We discuss the alleged discovery, why Lawson remains skeptical, what good archaeology actually looks like, and why Christians should be cautious about sensational claims. We also consider a much bigger question: Can archaeology actually prove the Bible is true? John Wesley insisted that every Methodist preacher proclaim one doctrine “constantly, strongly, and explicitly.” Yet for decades, that doctrine was largely neglected in Methodist pulpits. What was it? And why is recovering it essential to the future of Methodism? Read my latest at Theology Project. Here: theologyprojectonline.substa…

Have you ever hesitated to take communion because you felt spiritually unprepared or unworthy? Many Christians avoid the Lord’s Table out of fear, pointing to 1 Corinthians 11 and the warning about eating and drinking judgment upon yourself. But what if avoiding communion is actually far more spiritually dangerous? In this clip, Dr. @RyanNDanker unpacks John Wesley’s pastoral response to that fear. Does the Bible prohibit women from preaching, teaching, or leading in the church? That question deals with some difficult biblical texts. First Timothy 2 is often taken to prohibit women from leading as preachers and pastors. But the word translated “authority” isn’t the typical term for pastoral leadership. 1 Corinthians 11 assumes women speak authoritatively, yet 1 Cor 14 seems to command women to be silent. How do we understand these complicated passages? In Part 2 of my conversation with @PrestonSprinkle, we dig into these texts directly. What did Paul actually mean—and what do these texts require of Christians who take the authority of Scripture seriously? What if one word in Romans 7 tells us that Paul isn’t describing the Christian life? “I am unspiritual, sold as a slave to sin” (Rom 7:14). Paul’s use of “spiritual” and “unspiritual” elsewhere gives us an important clue about the identity of the “I” in Romans 7. That’s the subject of my latest essay. The Christian hope isn’t ultimately about escaping this world for a disembodied heaven. It’s resurrection. New creation. God dwelling with his redeemed people. Redemption is restoration, not abandonment. Some thoughts on N. T. Wright’s God’s Homecoming: theologyprojectonline.substa…

The debate over women in church leadership and preaching roles has not subsided. But what does the Bible actually say about the question. In this episode of Theology Project, @PrestonSprinkle discusses relevant biblical texts that don’t always show up in the debate. Turns out there’s more going on in Scripture than you might have previously heard. YouTube: youtu.be/vf3lNSkdKSQ Apple Podcasts: podcasts.apple.com/us/podcas… Substack: theologyprojectonline.substa…
