I donāt talk about addiction as an abstract policy issue. I lived it.
At 17, I was struggling with addiction and living on the streets of Vancouver. I know what it feels like to be cold, hungry and exhausted, and still have drugs matter more than anything else. I also know there were times when I was simply not capable of making decisions in my own best interest.
But I also know what recovery can make possible.
Someone believed I was capable of more. I found purpose, went to treatment and began rebuilding my life. Today, that life is almost unrecognizable.
Thatās why I will never accept that leaving people trapped in addiction is compassion.
Every person we see suffering on our streets has a story that isnāt finished yet. Sometimes compassion means intervention. It means treatment, recovery, responsibility, connection and purpose.
Keeping someone alive matters. But keeping someone alive is not enough. We need to give people a way out.
I found mine. I want every British Columbian struggling with addiction to have the opportunity to find theirs. Iāll have a lot more to say on this in the coming weeks.
BC Conservative candidate Claire RattĆ©e shares her personal experience with addiction, homelessness, and recovery while outlining the partyās approach to treatment and public safety:
āEvery person we see suffering on our streets has a story that isnāt finished yet, and we cannot give up on them.ā

Canada is a great country & Iām so proud to be Canadian. But I find disturbing the number of times our judges use publication bans. Public knowledge of danger is paramount. We have to stop protecting the rights of dangerous criminals over the rights of everyday Canadian citizens.
Welp, itās happened. The Premier of British Columbia (@Dave_Eby) has called a snap election-which will happen 1 week after we vote for local elections. Local elections are vitally important, and so are provincial elections. The difference here is that October 17thās civic elections are a full term after the last ones and are NECESSARY. The provincial ones are happening less than 2 years into the current @bcndp majority government. This is NOT necessary. This election was not called because of @realDonaldTrump, it was called because of a thing called #corruption in #bcpoli. This time I wonāt be holding my nose and voting NDP. This time Iāll be holding my nose and voting either @BCConservCaucus or @VoteCentreBC. I cannot support a Premier who cancels needed health projects and then un-cancels them when he decides he wants a larger majority because the right of centre parties are in disarray. Premier Eby may have just requested his resignation from British Columbians today by asking for Her Honour the Honourable Wendy Cocchia to dissolve parliament and drop a writ for an election.
Sorry for the long ass tweet everyone, but man am I steamed about this bullshit call. Not to mention the WASTE of money beginning the by-election in #AbbotsfordMission and the even bigger waste of 10s of millions of dollars to try to get an even bigger majority. Ask @JustinTrudeau how that went in 2021. I supported him but didnāt support that election call either.

As Health Director for Wayne County, we put vending machines with free Narcan and fentanyl test strips in 100 locations.
We hoped to make even a small dent in offsetting the opioid epidemic that Mike Rogers made even worse by voting with the pharmaceutical industry his entire career in Congress.
Anyone know where this smoke is coming from? This is the area over Golden Ears Provincial Park in Maple Ridge. #bcwildfire #mapleridge #vancouver #bcstorm #smoke
We need better ways for Canadians to be alerted by @environmentca to an elevated risk for wildfires.

Love it when thunderstorms roll though the Lower Mainland. Most of the rest of North America gets them fairly regularly but for us, guessing when lightning will hit can be as hard as trying to figure out when itās going to snow. #bcstorm

š©ļø This is so cool: A Redditor living under SFO's takeoff path built a ceiling projection that maps every plane flying over their house in real time, using ADS-B, the open radio signal aircraft broadcast on 1090 MHz. Same feed as FlightRadar24, picked up with a cheap SDR dongle and beamed onto the ceiling.
Iāve been a member of the LPC since 2011. Iām very happy that our party has moved on from Trudeauās leftist policies & now have important and needed centre right voices along with centre and centre left members. Mark Carney can and will guide us back to prosperity. Letās go!!!!
So sad to hear about the mass shooting up in Tumbler Ridge, BC. Iām praying for my fellow British Columbians that have been affected by the shooting. God be with them #BCstrong
As the partner of a Venezuelan who sought refuge in Canada, Iām ecstatic to see Maduro vanquished and removed from #Venezuela. Iām glad that President Trump did this. That was the easy part. The hard part is returning Venezuela to freedom. Iāll be praying for that!
