🧵 tw: dictatorship; fascism
1) This is the executive order that establishes Trump as dictator. It’s also how Trump is going to get around the court orders and defy them. By forcing federal employees to do it or be fired. So now the president alone interprets law. There’s a lot to cover, so let’s begin⬇️

Wherein the richest man in the world, while busy trying to dismantle the US Government, doesn't seem to care that what he's saying is demonstrably false at almost every level.
Reuters was literally paid by the federal government for “Large Scale Social Deception”. That’s literally what it says on the official government documents!!

There's so much lunacy that this might not even rate much attention, the idea that only one branch, and only two people, one of whom is pretty unhinged, can say what the law is.
A Trump official just announced that Trump has signed an executive order claiming that ONLY the President and Attorney General can speak for “what the law is.” They are trying to start a constitutional crisis.

Section 5F of "Ensuring Reliance Upon Sound Economic Analysis" in Dept of Transportation Activities requires: prioritizing user-pay models; preferencing communities with higher marriage and birth rates; prohibiting vaccine and mask mandates; requiring compliance with Immigration.

The document, does, to be fair, include reference to increased access that could alleviate poverty and pays passing attention to noise, water pollution, and soil contamination, though the standard may be different or changing in regulatory terms.

But it's that section 5F that seems to show what's up.

Speaking of things that matter less, but still sorta show whom we're dealing with... No, really, a sitting Congressman offered up a bill authorizing the President to aquire Greenland and rename it Red, White, and Blueland. buddycarter.house.gov/upload…

Do I have this right? They moved DOGE under the PRA, shielding it from FOIA and various publication requirements, and the PRA enables them to destroy records if approved by the Archivist, whom last week they fired?

If you were trusting that there would still be guardrails on some of the worst choices available, here is your proof that they don't exist.
This is an excellent summary of Musk’s takeover of the Treasury from @NYMag’s @chasdanner, with quotes from WSJ, NYT, WaPo, and my op-ed from @MSNBC yesterday. But this quote from @smotus is right on the money. This isn’t efficiency. It’s a coup. nymag.com/intelligencer/arti…

So much chaos and awfulness right now that stuff like this might pass under the radar, but it shouldn’t. This is terrifying, the idea that Musk is demanding and getting access like this.
SCOOP: The highest-ranking Treasury official is expected to depart soon after a clash w/ Elon Musk allies over their demands for access to a sensitive internal government payment system, sources say Musk allies wanted access to the system responsible for disbursing trillions in fed payments annually as part of DOGE Treasury career staff saw request as highly unusual David A. Lebryk, viewed internally as consummate nonpolitical civil servant, expected to exit after joining Treasury in 1989. Last week, he was acting treasury secretary. There is no bottom. This is exactly on brand. This is not leadership.
Here's Trump's order pinning blame for the DCA crash on Obama, Biden, women, and people of color

Every member of the government body that is supposed to have the Power of the Purse represents people who will be directly harmed by the Executive branch's actions to stop government spending on programs designed to help. You have to wonder what they really want to accomplish.

Now he's pardoned people who committed crimes blocking access to abortion services. They've always believed the ends justify the means if and only if it is their ends. These and the 1/6 pardons are just a result of that belief taken to an unacceptable, unAmerican extreme.

Maybe I need to stop tweeting political stuff. My feed's not gonna be very interesting that way and it's all pretty damn depressing. Back to Ultimate? More music? Or just leave it entirely? Who knows. Gah.

Completely unhinged.
This is quite incredible. The US Justice Dept, under Trump, is defending its birthright citizenship Order by arguing that immigrant children covered by the Order cannot be citizens because... the children of Native Americans aren't US citizens.
Readers added context they thought people might want to know
In the case Elk v. Wilkins SCOTUS found that Native Americans were not subject to the 14th Amendment's citizenship clause as they were "not subject to the jurisdiction of the United States when they were born". A later act of Congress granted citizenship to Native Americans. supreme.justia.com/cases/federal/… archives.gov/files/historic…

I don't even know what to say.
Replying to @atrupar
Trump on abolishing FEMA: "When there is a problem with a state, I think that that problem should be taken care of by the state. That's what we have states for. They take care of problems."

He's claiming that *Prime Minister Trudeau said they'd "be a failed nation" if we didn't do $200B of trade with them? Why do I feel like that's not how Trudeau would describe it?
Trump: "I would love to see Canada be the 51st state. The Canadians citizens, if that happened ... they'd have much better health coverage."

60-year-old federal contractor non-discrimation rules, gone. Government ethics rules, gone. A meme coin scheme that just looks like blatant, untraceable bribery? No one will hold this administration to account. Can anyone do it?

This stuff matters. They will simply lie about anything, at any level. Maybe it's to look tough, to feed meat to the base, maybe it's to distract us from what else they're doing that serves only their interest. And it matters that there seems to be no way to hold them to account.
I submitted my resignation last week…my 2 year term was already up 🤷‍♂️😅 I was honored to serve as co-chair of the President’s Council on Sports, Fitness, and Nutrition. My fellow council members - unpaid volunteers like me - were hardworking, talented people who inspired me every day. I’m proud of what we accomplished on behalf of the American people…like a historic partnership between the White House and every major sports league to increase access to sports and health programs for kids. I hope @realdonaldtrump exercises his presidential authority so the Council can continue to advocate for fitness and good health for all Americans. These are bipartisan issues…nonpartisan issues. May God give you the wisdom, Mr. President, to put politics and name calling aside…and instead lift up the everyday people working to bring America together. Let’s build longer tables….
