A lot of debate in UK about Council tax.
It was introduced to fund local services. Campaigners now justify it by the value of the home not by the cost of those services, Yet the argument is driven by regional house-price differences, even though the cost of local services varies nothing like as much as property values do. That turns council tax from a charge for local services into a partial wealth tax.
If the principle is that what you pay should rise because your house is worth more, why stop at council tax? Should you pay more for the same flight, supermarket shop or haircut? We don't price services by the value of the customer's home but by the cost of providing them.
If society wants a wealth tax, it should debate and legislate for one explicitly, not repurpose council tax by stealth.

❤️ PiQ Needs You ❤️
I make these appeals very rarely, and when I do, it's for something or someone very dear to me.
Michele, the son of my amazing friend Giacomo, battles daily with a rare genetic disorder known as Duchenne Muscular Dystrophy (DMD), and we are petitioning for the approval of the non-steroidal drug Givinostat.
This has the potential to be life-changing for young Michele.
Please consider signing this petition.
Much love
Ryan

🇬🇧🗳️ Seems an appropriate time to repost the below tweet from Kier Starmer.
Today at 2 PM, Keir Starmer's Labour Party is set to vote on removing the Winter Fuel Allowance for around 10 million pensioners.
They claim it's to save the economy, but let's call it what it is: a betrayal of our elderly.
Watch closely. This vote could split Labour down the middle, with many MPs poised to rebel.
A critical moment for the party's soul, or lack thereof.

What Britain needs: big, bold, change and huge economic development.
What Britain will get: a ban on energy drinks for under-16s.
Neither Labour nor Conservatives are up to the task. Embarrassing.

Hang on - his original plan was *not to go at all*?? Skip out on the whole D-Day event, while running a national security focussed election campaign and after telling the whole country that all young people need to give up time for national service?
D-Day: Tory fury – Sunak leaves early – French told he would not attend, Tory sources confirm - shorter visit was the compromise reaction.life/d-day-tory-fur…
Honestly, all you people trying to score political or Brexit points using D-Day as your vehicle, go give your heads a wobble. You're even more boring than usual.

I can count a dozen times in the past 5 years I’ve been in press conferences/ interviews with Vaughan Gething and he has lambasted the UK Tories for failing to “respect” Wales and Welsh democracy.
IMO, if he loses a no confidence vote within the Welsh Parliament and blithely dismisses it as a “gimmick”, it will lay bare the hollowness of his previous statements.
It will suggest that Welsh democracy is not something to be respected and nurtured, and is rather a vehicle for personal political advancement.
Right, now back to my holiday.
