A day in the life of a #soundengineer starts long before anyone hits record. Setting up the gear and dialing in the levels is the quiet work behind every great recording session. The National Music Centre’s #recordingstudio environments are unlike anywhere in the world, with historic analog consoles and a collection of instruments spanning 450 years of music technology. Learn more and book your recording at studiobell.ca/recording. 🎶 Song: “Set U Free” by K-Riz (prod. EL.WAV), out on all streaming platforms now.

National Music Centre (NMC) extends its condolences to the family and friends of #SassJordan, who passed away last week. The Montreal-raised singer was one of the great voices of Canadian rock. Beyond her powerhouse voice, Sass was known for her generosity. She gave her time and talent to numerous charitable causes, including BANC (Benevolent Artists National Charity) and The Andy Kim Montreal Christmas, which have raised funds for many not-for-profits including NMC. Having graced the stage at the King Eddy many times, as well as NMC’s performance hall over the years, Sass remains a presence in the building today, with a photo of her performing hanging in the Eddy lobby and a jacket she wore on display in NMC’s Idols and Icons exhibition. Sass absolutely knew how to make you a believer, and we’ll miss her dearly. 📸: Baden Roth

Does the backdrop in #EdenTaylor’s new video look familiar? 👀 It should! The Calgary singer-songwriter's new video for her song, “That’s What I Do,” was filmed entirely inside #StudioBell, home of the National Music Centre. We may be biased, but we think our building makes a pretty great co-star.

📸: Claudia Grégoire — It’s been one year since the National Music Centre (NMC) opened its co-location with Adisq in Montréal’s Quartier Latin. Over the past year, the space has hosted album launches, networking events, podcast tapings, and more, helping connect National Music Centre with Québec’s vibrant music community. To mark the milestone, we hosted a reception with Montréal-born Canadian Music Hall of Fame inductee Andy Kim, Félix Award-nominees Fred Dionne and Katrine Sansregret, and many friends and colleagues from the Francophone music scene in attendance. Our Montréal hub continues to serve as a bridge for NMC’s work in Québec, and we’re looking forward to even more performances, events, and collaborations in the year ahead. Check out some photos from the event, and learn more about the impact the space is having: bit.ly/4h7LpPQ Interested in booking the space? Visit nmc.ca/montreal for all the details.

Before @_DeepPurple's show at the Scotiabank Saddledome last night, frontman #IanGillan was reunited with the Rolling Stones Mobile Studio (RSM), the very studio where the band’s 1972 album #MachineHead and #SmokeontheWater were recorded. Known as the "Sistine Chapel of rock 'n' roll," the RSM has been part of countless legendary recordings. Now parked next to the King Eddy stage, the RSM continues to record new music and make history. Swipe through to see photos from Gillan's visit.

Kevin McAuley, builder and president of Goulais River Guitars, has a knack for building instruments out of odd materials, and the #KingEddyYYC gave him some interesting materials to work with. He crafted three guitars in the venue's honour, including a four-string model made from a recovered exit sign pulled from the original building's demolition. It even lights up.💡 Celebrate over 120 years of King Eddy history with NMC Presents: Eddy Fest, from Aug. 14-16, and honour every era of this legendary venue's story. See the full lineup and get tickets at kingeddy.ca/whats-on.
