Today Moray Ocean Community volunteers got together to reflect on everything we have done in 2024 and started looking forward to 2025!
Here are a few highlights of the year and a huge thank you to everyone for such a fantastic year :)
@NatureScot @BeASeaChanger @FaunaFloraInt
Director Terrie had a lot of fun today with the P5,6&7 classes of Cromarty Primary School carrying out an Oyster shell survey for @mcsuk
This data has been uploaded by the pupils to the online collection form. The enthusiasm and interest from the children was totally awesome!
And there was much discussion as to whether their grandparents or great grandparents would remember the native oyster reefs off Cromarty.
@NatureScot @BeASeaChanger @MossyEarth @HWSciDivers @TheGlenmorangie
One of our Directors was delighted to take part in @NatureScot training on intertidal surveying at @FSC_Millport this weekend using the Community led Marine Biodiversity Monitoring Handbook.

Massive thanks to @FaunaFloraInt @CCNScotland & NatureScot!
One of our Directors Terrie Sawyer has been out searching for slipper limpets (Crepidula fornicata) along the coast in Fortrose on the Black Isle.
These are an invasive species coming originally from North America.
We will keep searching along the Moray coast for this invasive species and continue to remove them. Thanks to our volunteers for assisting.
The @MorayFirthCP are also doing surveys so if you are interested in getting involved keep an eye on their social media too!
Terrie has uploaded these findings to the iRecord App as requested by @NatureScot - if you spot any please also submit your data!
We loved chatting to @ProjectSeagrass on how we are using their fab #SeagrassSpotter app - check out our blog on their website to see how you can start using it too! 💙🌊🌱

One of our Directors went out for a Halloween morning Oyster shell survey!
Trick or treat?
Fireworks litter or an oyster shell?
Both found during my spooky morning oyster shell survey at Roseisle beach!
Try your best to reduce, reuse & leave no trace for a sustainable spooky season!

Some of our Directors are travelling back from our first @CCNScotland gathering which was a weekend full of incredible connections.
We can't wait to take the inspiration back and see what we can do next with some of the opportunities & partnerships discovered over the weekend 🌊
Directors Robyn, Terrie & Catherine are on their way to @FSC_Millport for the @CCNScotland gathering to represent Moray Ocean Community and learn from other coastal community groups from across #Scotland! Let us know if you have any questions you would like them to ask 🌊
Thank you to Ceris from @FaunaFloraInt for a brilliant strategy day with Directors in Cromarty.
Thanks to @CromartyLH for hosting us & brilliant to say hi to Matt from @MorayFirthCP taking part in the @mcsuk #GreatBritishBeachClean
We also did a survey to finish the day!
Director Terrie & vol Rowena completed a Seagrass survey at another section of Findhorn bay today for @findhornwater . With geese overhead & evidence of nutrient enrichment they couldn't help but wonder if migratory geese & water quality impact on the seagrass in this area?
Thanks again to the volunteers who helped at our @mcsuk #GreatBritishBeachClean event on Friday - that's the important data now added to their website!
Lots of events still happening - especially by @MorayFirthCP so have a look on the website and join in 🌊

Thanks to the @morayocean volunteers who had a beautiful sunset on Cummingston beach taking part in the @mcsuk #GreatBritishBeachClean this evening!
Jasper & Hamish were also a big help 🐾
Lots of events over the next week so sign up & help gather important litter data! – at Scotland, United Kingdom
What a stunning morning for an early seagrass survey for another section of Findhorn Bay for @findhornwater 🤩🌱🌊 @ProjectSeagrass @nature
Sun & Seagrass!
What a wonderful day for Moray Ocean Community volunteers to trial some Seagrass survey techniques using paddleboards, snorkels, bathyscopes & cameras!
Huge thanks to @BeASeaChanger for the funding for the paddleboards and @NatureScot for our surveying kit!
