Macro implication of @mcuban; @costplusdrugs applies price pressure & shows manufacturing proof point. 1 company can disproportionately reshape a market if it pokes in the right places -> @statnews Cuban wants to open market for rare disease treatments statnews.com/2026/10/21/mark…

Saturday at the @InstituteCicero Courage Awards, @JTLonsdale and @Burrows4TX talked about what keeps Texas competitive. Public safety and healthcare came up often and I agree those are essential themes.

I continue to be impressed by @paradromics progress
Today, we announced a collaboration with @SiemensHealth to build an end-to-end imaging workflow for implantable BCIs. Through our partnership, structural MRI, functional MRI, vascular imaging, and CT scanning will now be combined to form one end-to-end process, from patient assessment and surgical planning to implantation and long-term outcomes. Performance or longevity. For years, it seemed like the field of BCI would have to choose between the two. Our accumulating preclinical data suggests otherwise: four years of stable neural recording and decoding in large animal models, with steady spike SNR and no electrode array migration. Years after health plans were required to publish their prices regulators spanning administrations are still tweaking the rules so the data is usable. As we start on medication pricing I hope regulators apply the lessons from day 1 so we skip the games statnews.com/2026/10/05/trum…

And it raised at software valuations. The tech could support geographic labor arbitrage routing patients in high price regions to lower priced clinicians but nationwide it also collapses to a single, not regional, encounter price. It’s an economics paper waiting to be written.
Do you remember when we were all so hyped up about telemedicine we totally forgot it's still services? It remains an encounter between a doctor and a patient, even if a laptop is involved.

Two Sat’s in a row of @LoewyLawFirm sponsoring Austin nonprofits. This week @DiaperAustin. Adam are your closing statements as good as your donor call to action?
Hey @LoewyLawFirm brave to give us a ‘before and after’ comparison of what 20 years of law does to someone! Ha - thanks for being a @wslaustin_org sponsor at tonight’s Jewel Ball

Healthcare will follow the retirement playbook: pensions → 401(k)s. The interesting question is what becomes the 401(k) for healthcare—and how financial services use it to grow AUM. Today’s HSAs will look tiny. @chrissyfarr
2030 prediction from a smart employer benefits leader in my network: You'll see the first 10,000 life company move off of providing healthcare to a defined contribution model ("throw in the towel.") You'll see a lot of movement in small biz market, medium starts to shift too.

Oura’s S-1 suggests digital health is coming full circle. After promising to break down traditional healthcare’s barriers, the next advantage may look familiar: define the network and control access to the patient. Oura’s way of doing it? The ring. moosechris.substack.com/p/ou…

Great comments from Senator Phil Gramm at @TPPF. I loved his point about how we classify services vs. manufacturing: software development counts as a service, yet a huge share of the value in a modern Chevy is software. (1/4)

My take - Software makes physical goods more capable, multipurpose and upgradeable blurring the line between manufacturing and services. We may be too focused on which bucket the value falls into, and not enough on how much value the thing we manufacture actually delivers. (3/4)

Also liked his framing of trade deficits: he “runs a trade deficit” with Walmart and that’s ok. Comparative advantage; buy what others can make more cheaply and focus your resources on what you do best. He did note the national-security carve-outs, especially defense (4/4)

The highlight of today’s @TPPF healthcare session was Sen. @LoisKolkhorst’s framing of the economics [paraphrasing]: if healthcare spending consistently grows faster than inflation, someone is making money—even when every participant claims to be losing money.
Join our panelists TX Sen. Lois Kolkhorst, TX Rep. James Frank, and Casey Mulligan as they discuss healthcare solutions at today's Healthcare Symposium. texaspolicy.com/multimedia/a…

Rep. @RepJamesFrank also raised an urgent issue impairing a functioning market — provider consolidation and the market power it creates (especially in rural Texas). In the near term, that may require treating dominant systems more like regulated monopolies.

Longer term, I’m more optimistic: enforce price transparency and examine whether private-equity ownership (and unwritten but likely still happening) control comply with Texas’s corporate-practice-of-medicine doctrine. That could create a real path forward. @TPPF @RepJamesFrank

I dislike the premise of this story @statnews . RHTP was intended to launch structural change, not resolve operational budgets. We can have a different discussion on the operational shortfalls facing hospitals statnews.com/2026/09/14/rura…

So often I hear ‘plug the hole’ as a recurring theme but it underscores people do not understand the RHTP mandate. I respect it is hard to think about the future when the present is a struggle but we have to have 2 different conversations, not already call RHTP a failure.
