💵 An adviser to the Trump-appointed head of the Commodity Futures Trading Commission ordered career staff to withdraw an insider-trading referral over suspicious oil trades placed minutes before Trump's March reversal on Iran, Bloomberg reported Monday.
The trades came on March 23, about 15 minutes before Trump posted on Truth Social that he was postponing threatened strikes on Iranian power plants. Billions of dollars in contracts betting that oil would fall and the S&P 500 would rise were placed in that window, according to Bloomberg.
Brent crude fell as much as 14% after the post.
Analysts in the CFTC's Division of Market Oversight referred the trading to the enforcement division based on its timing and who was behind it. Mel Gunewardena, a senior adviser to CFTC Chairman Michael Selig, then told a supervisor to retract the referral and took over the examination himself, according to people familiar with the matter cited by Bloomberg.

The main problem with AI has always been that it will be used for nefarious purposes as long as it’s owned and controlled by tech billionaires who are driven purely by greed and profit instead of what is best for humanity.
Sadly, I see a lot of people falling into the trap of thinking, “how can AI be harmful if all I use it for is to assist with work projects.”

The price of #gold is typically correlated with oil because gold is a hedge against inflation, and oil has a strong impact on the price of everything.
What's strange is that the price of gold suddenly became negatively correlated with oil as soon as the Iran Conflict broke out.
At the same time, gold began hemorrhaging out of the US.
I happen to think a deal might have been made with China to import less oil (to keep the price down) in exchange for buying gold.
