Having worked in the ventilation field I hard agree with this ⬇️. Improving poorly ventilated spaces is a great idea, but over selling the impact on covid transmission with 🚨🚨🚨 could turn ppl away from improving ventilation because they don't see the improvements they r sold

Many people somehow believe that it's appropriate to attempt to eliminate many kinds of risks completely. But many tiny risks are more costly to eliminate than to accept. Sometimes the costs are more than money. Human socialization is among the most important and healthy aspects of human life. But some people would completely avoid socializing, or would cover them their faces with masks, to reduce risk, and in the process, live less fulfilling lives. From another perspective, consider what would happen if modern Farms quit using chemicals. We would face slightly lower risks of consequences associated with those chemicals, but we would face massively higher risks associated with crop losses and poor crop quality.
TL;DR: A pre-post study found a 4-component pathway with portable HEPA/plasmacluster units cut hospital infections (HAIs) by 69% in an oncology unit. But the authors explicitly state this cannot prove causality. 🧵: 1/11
Statistical Caveat 3: Misreported significance on rare events. The authors report significant drops for C. diff (2 vs 0, p=0.042) and fungal cases (2 vs 0, p=0.041). Standard Fisher's Exact testing gives p=0.498 (not statistically significant). 10/11
Summary: The study shows a promising low-cost quality bundle. However, as the authors acknowledge, the design cannot prove causality. Controlled multi-center trials are required before attributing benefits to air purification. pjms.org.pk/index.php/pjms/a… 11/11
Thanks to mechanisation, fertilisers and short stemmed crops we really are not seeing historically low UK crop yields. Lower than previous years, but not historically low as some headlines would make us believe
I made a graph of UK cereal yields going back to 1885
You can find the data here. When people say yields are at an historic low this doesn’t mean what you may think it means - it means for the last few years.
The ‘official’ data set is here.

Why are people wasting time doing this, completely meaningless numbers. It'll be counting airline adverts next and linking it to climate change

@cjsnowdon loves these kind of stats
These logistical challenges really amaze me. Incredible to watch. Would love to see how they maneuver it into the final destination or turn it around a roundabout

When you go on holiday and find "exotic flavoured" toothpaste.
Herbal miswak containing
Miswak
Chamomile
And *checks notes* Myrrh
Which I thought was some embalming agent from my wise men lore.
Anyway tastes interesting. Like minty whilst chewing on a bunch of weeds
