LLMs love adding defaults to all Mongoose fields. This is an anti-pattern!
Null fields are still stored in MongoDB, transferred over the wire from MongoDB, and end up in JSON. Wastes space and bandwidth.
Defaults should be used for meaningful values not placeholders
