Our new paper is out! 📣 ”Cell types or cell states? An investigation of adrenergic and mesenchymal phenotypes in neuroblastoma”
cell.com/iscience/fulltext/S…
Excellent work from @evo_eco_onco and @AnderssonStina_ ✨
Officially out in iScience now! Check it out here: cell.com/iscience/fulltext/S…
Key take-away: differential proliferation and survival of adrenergic and mesenchymal phenotypes, rather than cell state switching, likely drives therapeutic response in neuroblastoma!
Awesome science, awesome PI - apply! 🤩

The one and only - @adameykolab
🌟Last week, we wrapped up our 2024 #StemCellStars series with a talk by Prof. Igor Adameyko from @karolinskainst & @MedUni_Wien on clonal analysis in embryonic development using single-cell tech.
Thanks to Prof. Adameyko, attendees & chair @hammarlund_emma! Stay tuned for 2025!

📰Researchers from the @mohlinlab at @lunduniversity have found that the gene MOXD1 is associated with a poorer prognosis in #neuroblastoma, a rare form of childhood cancer with a low survival rate.
Read more about the discovery now in @ScienceAdvances ⤵️

Polina is an amazing scientist and person - take the chance to join her road towards producing great science!
I work hard now to set up the lab at @StAnna_CCRI and start the research on #pediatric_cancer #initiation using #iPSC models. I am looking for the first team member - #lab_manager! Please apply and help to spread the word. lnkd.in/d9aqY8pn

Paper alert! 🔔 ✨ Read all about how trunk neural crest gene MOXD1 is a tumor suppressor in childhood cancer neuroblastoma, a specific marker for MES cells, and restricted to Schwann Cell Precursors during embryonic lineage specification @ScienceAdvances science.org/doi/10.1126/scia…
It has been a long process (as publication always seems to be nowadays), where we split up our original submission (and bioRxiv version) in two - a cancer part and a development part. We had too much data according to reviewers 🤷🏼♀️
Our findings suggest cell type-specific origin of neuroblastoma subtypes, and understanding the mechanism behind this tumor suppressor could help in identifying and treating this group of tumors.
At last, MOXD1 is a specific marker of MES phenotype cells in neuroblastoma, and expression is restricted to Schwann Cell Precursors during trunk neural crest cell lineage specification.
Using CRISPR-mediated knockout models of zebrafish and chorioallantoic membrane assays, as well as overexpression models of patient cells and mouse xenografts, we show that MOXD1 is a tumor suppressor gene in neuroblastoma.
We show that loss of MOXD1 at 6q23 predicts extremely poor outcome in patients with high-risk disease. The prognostic information of MOXD1 expression is tumor-specific, and restricted to childhood cancer form neuroblastoma.
Amazing work by PhD students @elinafredlund and @AnderssonStina_
