This is a really solid list. It illustrates concretely why I keep telling people that writing the code is the least important part of the job.
I had the strangest year this year. It hasn't been the easiest year for anyone, and I've been blessed with a healthy family, great friendships and some meaningful work. But I also stumbled on dark times, and learned some things to keep me safe.

Avery is my favourite tech writer ever and this blog is so COMPLETELY on point re both capitalism and the pitfalls of unregulated distributed systems I want to YELL. apenwarr.ca/log/20211201
I'm launching a COVID certificate PDF validation service today! An automated way to check that people you'll be interacting with have their cert. We'll be using it for Summer of Tech in person events.

I have bird questions for bird knowledgeable people. There are tūī in Wellington this year singing a very different song: it's just one repeated loud note followed by the usual cackling noises. I've heard it all around southern Wellington. Have I just not noticed it before?
Made a NZ COVID Pass reader app in Flutter. I won't release it to the app stores but hopefully it's useful if you want to integrate it into your own apps. github.com/mogest/nz_covid_p…
Wasn't going to be able to sleep from the fireworks, anyway. Wrote a NZ COVID Pass reader and validator for Ruby: github.com/mogest/nz-covid-p…

I was a senior developer who was promoted to management, and I don't regret it. I love working with people and organisational systems. But we need to stop promoting all technical people out of teams and pay them what they're worth to participate in and run technical projects.
Come hang out with me and @adamshand and another half dozen managers! Let’s talk shop! :)
New block of Managers Anonymous kicks off Thurs Aug 19th at 7am, in the Wellington CBD. If you want to come to a FREE (or you can pay, too :)) facilitated peer support/sharing session with other Managers, sign up!
