This is genderslop. More men are cooking because they care about their macros in a way that women do not.
I wrote a story about how basically every man I know in my station of life — millennial, in a long term relationship, in possession of a fake email job — does all the cooking in their relationship, which is something I have a lot of theories about.

Ukrainians be like
Trump on Truth Social: My decision on Russia is a very simple one. I am in the process of negotiating Peace in the war between Russia and Ukraine, and don’t want to do anything that will drive, foolishly, Russia away from the bargaining table. Great progress is being made, and that includes current hostage negotiations! Signing that document at this time will do that, and I can sign it later, or any time that I want! Perhaps more importantly, Russia is doing very little, if anything, to help the Islamic Republic of Iran, compared to what they could be doing, and I want to keep it that way, and will, unless stupid people get in the way. Lastly, Zelenskyy is using Diesel Refineries in Russia as a target, knowing that these attacks are seriously hurting the world diesel markets, including those in the United States. Farmers, ranchers, and businesses of all kinds are suffering greatly from this, but Russia is, nevertheless, sending, at a low price, millions of barrels of diesel to the World. Zelenskyy doesn’t care, and frankly, with all of the money that Europe is famously giving him, and that Crooked Joe Biden gave him in the past, he doesn’t want to end this war, and probably never did. He could have made a better deal two years ago than he can now. His country is in shambles, a large portion of his land is lost, his oceans and seas are gone, and his male population is low, wounded, and/or dead. I WANT THIS WAR END! Thank you for your attention to this matter. President DONALD J. TRUMP

This is what moral high ground looks like ig
BREAKING: Masked Israeli "settlers" attacked a convoy of European diplomats from France, Belgium and Poland during an olive harvest visit to the Christian Palestinian village of Taybeh, near Ramallah. Seven settlers on ATVs surrounded the vehicles, demanded IDs, threw stones and smashed the window of a Belgian consulate car.

I wish I ran a levered AI long fund. I could blow up a dozen times and people would still give me money. I think the capital class in America truly believes that AI is the endpoint of labor power and therefore class struggle altogether. I don't think that's true, but it's very profitable to believe so!

ISIS 🤝 USA
President Trump on Friday said he "absolutely" authorized the Pentagon's plan to livestream the Fort Hood shooter's execution. On Thursday, Defense Secretary Pete Hegseth said that Nidal Hasan's execution by firing squad will be public. The ex-Army major was convicted of killing 13 people at Fort Hood in 2009.

In my opinion, blaming China has been a means for American elites to avoid reflecting on their own role in their country's issues. Back in 2005, even Brad Setser acknowledged dysfunction in the US political economy as a cause of global imbalances. Twenty years later, he gives the impression that it is just China. And that's also why any attempt to econometrically determine China's causal role in deindustrialization post-2000 is going to have a problem with confounders.
I think you missed my point @BrianCAlbrecht I did not mean to debate the finer points of econometric method. My point was that most people make political decisions based on their experience. In the 1970s and 1980s workers in the heartland were unionized and worked in close-knit communities. Those communities disintegrated when manufacturing jobs declined, and low-paying service jobs were not a good substitute. Anyone who has visited a town in decline will not be persuaded by econometrics. Perhaps the absolute loss of manufacturing jobs after 2001 had nothing to do with the increased import share from China. That, to me, seems unlikely. But even if the decline was in part inevitable as a consequence of automation, we did a terrible job as a society of managing a transition for communities to new stable ways of subsisting. A welfare check is not a good substitute for a high-paying job. Call me a cynic, but it has not been my experience that the majority of my colleagues are dispassionate scholars who leave their priors behind when analyzing data. We find what we look for, and often what we look for is confirmation to support policies from which we personally benefit. Most economists, as members of the coastal elite, benefit from cheaper consumer goods. And we proceed to write papers demonstrating how American workers also benefit from globalization, even though workers in the towns that lost manufacturing jobs have voted with their feet by moving away from a Democratic Party that supports globalization towards a Republican Party that is unashamedly populist. Economics is, and always has been in part, a political venture. Ricardo’s arguments for free trade were in direct opposition to the corn laws, which supported landowners over manufacturers and workers. The repeal of those laws redistributed away from the landed gentry toward merchants, manufacturers, and labor. Nobody compensated the landowners out of the gains from trade. So perhaps the Autor-Dorn-Hanson papers had no influence on the debate. But the political economy of the issue was instrumental in the rise of MAGA and the success of Trump.@carney @greg_ip @bungarsargon @jasonfurman @IvanWerning
