Inside was a tiny scratch I’d never noticed. Then she told me the ring on her finger wasn’t the one Dad gave her. She sold that one years ago when I needed surgery and Dad said he couldn’t cover his half. Later, she bought herself a cheap replacement because she didn’t want me asking where her wedding ring went. I asked why she still wears the replacement now. She put it back on. Because he doesn’t get to decide what this ring means twice. Dad’s wedding is next month. He asked me to talk to her again. I haven’t.
