Que gran texto. ¿Cómo está cambiando la ciencia y la investigación en nuestros tiempos?
Una gran lectura
Sharing some deeply personal and existential reflections on scientific identity, the changing culture of AI research, the erosion of intellectual autonomy, and the growing disconnect between scientific rigor, professional recognition, and what organizations actually reward.
As usual, feedback and debate are welcome and actively encouraged!

Meet LandIS, the Landsat Instrument Suite that will fly aboard Landsat 10, the next satellite in the Landsat series.
With 26 spectral bands spanning visible light to thermal infrared, LandIS will collect more than twice as many bands as Landsat 8 and Landsat 9. These additional bands will help users better distinguish features on Earth’s surface and monitor water quality, agriculture, vegetation health, snow and ice, soil conditions, and other environmental parameters.
LandIS will also capture finer spatial detail, with resolutions of 10 to 20 meters for visible, near-infrared, and shortwave-infrared observations. That means a clearer view of smaller features, including streams, streamside habitats, woodlots, and individual agricultural fields.
Together, more spectral bands and finer spatial resolution will help users detect, distinguish, and track environmental change with greater detail and precision.
Expected to begin operations in the early 2030s, LandIS will also continue Landsat’s coverage of sunlit land and near-shore waters, along with select nighttime observations. It will also uphold the program’s high standards for data accuracy, extending a record of Earth observations that spans more than 54 years.

There is a heated discussion about RustGIS on Reddit!
reddit.com/r/gis/comments/1x…
I stopped posting/commenting on Reddit a few weeks ago. Not good for my mental health.
Here are my personal opinions about RustGIS:
Nobody is forcing you to use RustGIS. If ArcGIS/QGIS works well for you, that's great! Keep using it.
I believe in giving people choices. Competition and diversity drive innovation and ultimately benefit everyone. Why do we have so many car manufacturers, such as Toyota, Honda, BMW, and Tesla? They all serve the same basic purpose, but offer different features, experiences, and approaches.
The same applies to smartphones. We have iPhones and Android phones from Google, Samsung, Motorola, and others. Should we all use the same phone?
GIS software is no different. ArcGIS, QGIS, and RustGIS can coexist, each serving different needs and communities. I'm not trying to replace anyone's favorite GIS. I'm simply building another free and open-source option for people who might find it useful.
More choices are a good thing, especially in open-source software.

A native English speaker knows about 11,300 words at age 12 and 21,600 by age 60.
Advanced (C1) learners sit at 9,700, still short of a typical native-speaking 12-year-old.

China reduced extreme poverty fast, but Indonesia hasn’t been far behind.
China is often the poster child for rapid reductions in poverty, and for good reason. In the early 1980s, over 90% of its population lived in extreme poverty, but by the early 2020s, that number had dropped to nearly zero.
Some might assume that China is the only reason why global extreme poverty has declined. But that’s wrong: many countries have seen dramatic reductions in poverty, too. Indonesia is one clear example; it’s shown alongside China on the chart.
In 1984, 86% of Indonesians lived on less than $3 per day. By 2025, this had fallen to less than 4%. While it didn’t quite match China’s decline, it has still been impressive. The number of people living in extreme poverty has fallen from 140 million to about 10 million.
Note that the international poverty line is extremely low, defined as people living on less than $3 per day. But Indonesia has also made progress when measuring higher poverty lines.
