My commentary on the closure of @VectorBase. Join me in rallying for its sustainable continuation. Comment, repost, and circulate. Let’s ensure this vital resource remains accessible for our global #VectorBiology research community.
A real treat to hear the @MCW_Orchestra play their summer concert in Hart Park! A dedicated group of faculty, staff and students who create amazing music in their spare time! Delighted to see 4 @MCWmicrobiology musicians!

Full room at the BRC resources discussion #KMCB2024 by NIAID PO Brown & VEuPathDB PI Roos. Extreme dismay over global impact of NIAID decision, but sustained applause at news that VEuPathDB will return, through generosity of Fdn Adv Sci/Med, @open_phil @ChanZuckerberg Penn & UGA

It’s difficult to wrap one’s mind around NIH’s decision to shut down the most important shared resource for work in many of the world’s most impactful infectious diseases.

My lab among many is scrambling to prepare for the effect of this funding decision. science.org/content/article/…

Loss of access to @vectorbase and @veupathdb throws a wrench into the gears of malaria research and progress toward malaria elimination.
Devastating for vector and parasite biology work moving forward, and invaluable to my work on diverse and understudied malaria vector species.
It appears #NIAID will shutter the genome data base we all use daily. This strikes me as a significant mistake that may well endanger much of our global progress. @BSPparasitology @AS_Para @ASTMH @TrendsParasitol @AmSocParasit @parasitesrule @PiParasitology
The seventh @BrockmanLab & @mmreally1 lab community volunteer event. Today we spent the morning at @kinshipmke working on their urban farm. Always good to give back and witness the amazing work being done in our community.
What a wrap on a high school track career! Super proud mom here!
🚨School Record Alert🚨 for Clare Marchant who ran 44.71 in the 300 hurdles at State. Clare comes in 🥉and makes podium for her last race as a Lancer🔥🔥🔥🙌🙌🙌 We are so proud of you and you will be greatly missed!! Good luck at @WASHU_XCTF
There's a new version of this post
Another successful, enjoyable @BrockmanLab, @mmreally1 community volunteer event. Our labs spent volunteered with the family meal program at @RMHCmke. Giving back provides perspective and reminds us of all we have to be grateful for. Bonus: homemade☃️ hats brought many smiles.
Congrats @KenVernick! Thanks for the collaboration, mentorship and friendship over many years. Enjoy this transition!
.@infravec2 congratulates @KenVernick on his impending transition to emeritus faculty at @institutpasteur! Ken will continue to lead the Infravec Association as its President so stay tuned for developments

Shout out to current M3 student @helen_files, who was an MSSRP researcher in my lab this summer and was recently recognized as one of the Dr Michael J Dunn poster contest award winners!

Genuinely caring about students should be a non-negotiable qualification for a career in academia. Full stop.
No amount of research achievement or creativity can substitute for caring about the professional development and well-being of those we teach and mentor.
