Well, it finally happened. Two years of living carefully and it looks like Omicron got me the week before classes start. I just hope that I haven’t infected any of the vulnerable people in my life. #COVID #academia

Loco, our canine companion, is nearly 16. For the past 8 months he has had dementia and “sundowning” at night — mild anxiety and wandering the house from 1:30-4:30am. We have tried a variety of medications and nothing helps. Tarissa and I trade nights caring for him.

When one person in the family has a chronic health condition, it affects the health of all. Patient-centered design is not enough. We need other models for designing holistic care.

Norway spends about $30,000 per child on early childhood care. Finland spends $23,000. Germany, $18,000. The U.S. spends $500 per child. In other words, 1/60th of what Norway spends on its toddlers. How do we expect to build a better future if we refuse to invest in our kids?
