In Product Teams, outsourcing should be viewed as a cost, not a saving. That isn't to say it's not 'the right' approach for the org (everyone has constraints) but it's almost certainly not the optimal way to create long-term value.

There’s something I’ve been playing around with in my head as it relates to “product thinking” and I’m going to try to describe it here, although not fully formed yet. I think we do a real disservice to “#prodmgmt” when we talk about it only as a process. /1

The single most fundamental error of the last three decades is to try and design an idealised future state rather than working the evolutionary potential of the here and now, the adjacent possibles - it is impossible to gain consensus in the former, easier in the latter – at Lockeridge, England

Software development is jazz, not an orchestra. Leadership in a jazz band is about filling the gaps, keeping tempo, listening to what people are riffing on and helping everyone shine. It requires adaptation, not enforcing a direction.

So there's this thing where in agile where people try to get rid of roles to have everyone be maximally capable. This is a great way of generating optionality. /1

Data-Driven Coaching: Balance these six performance dimensions continuously. Anticipate (& accept) that pushing any one of these better might impact another adversely & make trades. Discuss as a team what "Too Much" impact might be & early warning signs you are approaching that.

Just got a text from my mom about my dad's insulin prescriptions. The prescription company called to inform them that the 90-day supply of Levemir, one of two insulins he takes, went from $95 to $946. Un-fucking-believable.

Re documentation. I have only 2 criteria: (1) Will anybody ever read it? [usually, the answer is "no"], and (2) Will it stay fresh? (is it changed the instant it becomes wrong or obsolete?) [again, the answer is usually "no."]. If you can't answer yes to both, don't write it.
