THE #SR43 SELECTION IN FOUR MINUTES ICYMI: The 43rd Student Regent selection took place during the third and final day of the 61st convention of the General Assembly of Student Councils (GASC) on August 8 in the atrium of UP Mindanao. Lasting about 15 hours, the Student Regent selection is a process where all present student councils in the assembly unitedly decide who to forward as their next representative. The selected Student Regent shall serve as the lone representative of the whole UP student community in the highest decision-making body in the university, the Board of Regents. With the session officially adjourning at 3:12 a.m. after the body has reached a consensus, watch how this gruelling process unfolded this year. #GASC61

The ultimate tragedy of the modern Filipino side quest is that what begins as an act of defiance is eventually packaged, priced, and sold back to us. READ: medium.com/p/560f6186ce18

Behind the promised rewards of neoliberal education lies a harsh reality: graduation does not bring security, but a future of relentless struggle. Beyond the gates, economic precarity deepens under the weight of U.S. imperialism and the rise of Pax Silica. Bureaucratic red tape suffocates workers, while trillionaires build fortunes off underpaid Filipino labor. Meanwhile, a state that routinely guts marginalized communities—from displaced fisherfolk to the weavers of the Sablay—hypocritically demands "honor and service" from the very youth it exploits. A long-overdue rehabilitation is needed by a nation stripped bare by its trees felled at the will of profit, its healthcare system hollowed to mistrust in basic care, and its playing fields left barren of support where dreams might take root beyond survival. In its final issue for the 38th term, The Manila Collegian traces life before and after the Sablay, exposing the rigged game that pales gilded glamour of accolades against the fire of serving the people, and driving the newly born Iskolars ng Bayan to continue on marching in the streets long with greater calls.
