This reminds me of a point brought up when writing our "Measuring Value" paper for @ITRevBooks last year... when an IT org considers itself and its goals distinct from its business peers... "If IT wins but the business loses, is that still success?" Answer here. 👇
Just heard of a utilities government company that is going bankrupt after their IT arm went all-in on Scrum and SAFe, rewrote a billing system, and that billing system got delayed long enough that they could not collect revenue, and ran out of money. Oh man.

Another reminder that Agile is NOT the goal. It is a vehicle toward achieving your goal. Focus on measuring and improving your (company's) outcomes.

"Once we understand the overall direction we are trying to go…as well as where we are today…we can then figure out the next target goal we want to reach. With this, we will focus on a couple of tools to help us: an Outcome Canvas and OKRs…" Read more: itrev.io/47G8rqO

I've been taking a break from work for the last few weeks, so missed much of the brouhaha over the McKinsey developer productivity article. But I'm sure that I could not write a better response than this one from @tastapod dannorth.net/mckinsey-review…

Interesting to see when production data gets copied down to non-prod environments, and then tests accidentally escape it to the public. Got an e-mail today from @ARRIS thanking me for a support chat I did back in 2018... The subject line even had "Sandbox" prefixed to it. 😬

This example is pretty benign. And, as far as I can tell, the test only went to myself. But it does raise the question around sensitive PII data scrubbing across environments, levels of security controls in non-prod environments (which are often more lax then production), etc.

Beware the Prosperity Gospel of Tech Twitter. This whole system is algorithmically designed to make you feel bad about yourself and your progress. Measure only against your previous self. Don’t worry about people’s cars or houses, focus on you, then send the ladder back down.

.@TMobile is forcing ppl to stop paying by credit card by removing a $5 discount per line so they can avoid bank fees, even though they made $2B in profit last year. This fee relief has been there for 10 years. /1

I love this! Also, same approach for me. I often inject humor, usually self-deprecating, into my talks. Definitely eases the tension.
Confession: I am a nervous public speaker. But I have a simple trick I use to cut the tension in the room and build momentum… Here’s how it works:

Be clear on the vision, the purpose, and the desired outcome hypotheses, invite experimentation and empowerment within guardrails. Celebrate safe, fast learning. Leverage emergence and maintain optionality to the last responsible moment in order to optimise outcomes. #BVSSH

In this article, @dominicad, the author of Making Work Visible, makes a case for moving away from "best practices." "Now more than ever, I fear that teams strive to implement and follow best practices in situations where novel ideas are needed instead." itrev.io/3K2R4Hx
