this is obviously a joke but there is something narratively here. cigars are hand crafted from natural organic tobacco whereas cigarettes are the mass produced imitation of our idolized tobacco consumption of yore. Snake smoking cigarettes is more thematically important than like 90% of character design choices that modern authors are making.

I'm fascinated by the rise of frictionmaxxing as a response to a frictionless life. We engineer away inconvenience, only to discover that some of the friction we removed was part of what made life feel alive in the first place
Somebody finally puts into words what was on my mind. This is why Im never able to fully enjoy renn faires, aside from the intrusion of Furries/Cosplayers. It all seems like a kitsch American consumerist version of European heritage, like orientalist portrayals of the East

the average anime watcher and normie doesn't even watch theatre, that's why they find it hard to grasp 'embarassing anime dialogue' (which has theatrical acting on its DNA instead of filmic acting)

Every AAA game coming out are all desperately trying to be movies and not one of them has even an ounce of the swag coming from a game made by a guy who clearly, actually watches a lot of movies.

Every time I say this comic nerds get really mad at me but the reason manga took off so hard and American comics are dying is because a manga series starts at vol 1 and goes to vol 2 and then vol 3

I will NOT be giving my future child an iPad. If they need to be entertained, they can level my crafters in final fantasy xiv.

Erie Canal.
Allegedly built 1817 - 1825.
351 miles.
35 locks.
8 years =average of……
44 miles per year.
630 feet per day.
26’ per hour.
Every 2 minutes almost a foot of canal built.
Absolute nonsense.
It is old world infrastructure.
They have to pretend that they built it.
“Primitive Tools: “For eight years they endured wet, hot, and freezing conditions while felling trees and excavating mile after mile—mostly with hand tools and animal power.”, as noted by the Erie Canalway National Heritage Corridor.”
Readers added context they thought people might want to know
The Erie Canal (original 363 miles, 83 locks) was built 1817-1825 in sections by thousands of workers using hand tools, animal power and on-site inventions; simplistic uniform daily rates ignore this and documented contemporary records.

America was so intensely productive when it was all whites that people find it easier to believe ancient civilizations built our capitols and canals and great monouments than to believe our own people did so.

this made me realize that sometimes i’m avoidant about other people’s emotions is because i internalized at a young age that if i engage with them, they will become my responsibility to manage. one of my parents did not self-regulate well, and that’s what that turns into
I strongly agree with this. Many people end up scared of emotions (and scared of their kids' emotions) because they've internalized that feelings are like weather: beyond our control, something we just have to endure
One of the most powerful things you can do as a parent is to reject that frame.
Emotions are fleeting and easily changed.
With older kids, emotional validation is often a silver bullet.
With young kids, it's even easier. (This old video of my son makes my laugh every time.)

For the price of a 600-square-foot studio condo in Manhattan, you could own a 16-room 1878 French Second Empire mansion in West Virginia.

I also believe giant nephilim built this ornate train station and it's not actually a train station but an aetherial harvester"
