As the IMF and World Bank gather for their 2026 #AnnualMeetings in Bangkok, we are bringing the realities behind their economic policies to the centre of the conversation. For more than 80 years, the IMF and World Bank have shaped economic policies that determine who has access to healthcare, education, decent work, food, public services and care, and who bears the cost when these systems are cut. Economics does not operate in an abstract space. It determines who gets medication, who gets education, whose knowledge is superior, whose work gets paid, who gets to have credits over another’s livelihood, and whose social relations become the norm. Through our campaign themed “Our Realities and Lives Are Not Your Budget Item,” we hope to bring together our feminist thought that has been challenging the continued use of austerity, debt conditionalities, wage-bill cuts and underinvestment in public services. As feminists, we are here to reiterate that our lives are not your budget item. ✡️Why now? 80+ years of failed economic policies with the "Grandmother’s IMF" is still cooking with the same failed recipe. ✡️Our power: Collective feminist action creates change and demands a feminist reset. ✡️Our role: Every action, big or small, contributes to the movement and the court of history. Campaign partners: @social_rights , @eurodad , @MenaFem , @FemnetProg , @NawiAfrica , @debtjustice, WEDO, AWGC, Action Aid Intlz #OurLivesNotBudgetItems #FeministEconomicJustice #FeministClimateJustice #MakePollutersPay #TheFaceOfAusterity #IMFWB2026 #StopAusterity

The 2026 #AnnualMeetings mark over 80 years of the Bretton Woods institutions that continue to shape economic policies that directly affect women’s lives, the magnitude of their care work, access to basic public services, and even who lives and who dies. Years of advocacy have influenced these institutions to recognise the need for gender equality. However, this recognition comes not from a rights perspective but from the calculation that such equality will improve growth without truly addressing gendered impacts. As we prepare for our session at the #AnnualMeetings on 15th October 2026, we share our policy brief on Feminist Pathways Towards a Fairer Global Tax Order, which provides background on the UN Framework on International Tax Cooperation (UNFCITC), the gender dimensions of international tax injustice, and how the UNFCITC can advance gender equality. Read the full brief here: akinamamawaafrika.org/wp-con…
The current global tax architecture has profound implications for gender and global inequality, shaping how taxing rights and revenues are distributed across countries. Developing countries, particularly in Africa, often generate substantial value through natural resources, labor and markets, yet retain limited taxing rights over resulting revenues.  This constrains public investment and can deepen gender and social inequalities. Join us for a session during the #AnnualMeetings in Bangkok, Thailand titled: "Addressing Global Inequality through Fair Taxing Rights: The Case for a Progressive UN Tax Convention". This session will explore how a progressive UN Tax Convention could rebalance taxing rights, strengthen source-country taxation, including in the digital economy, and advance tax justice. 🗓️: 15th October 2026 ⏲️: 1:00 - 2:30 PM ICT/UTC+7 📍: 2-2IID Virtual Participation: worldbankgroup.zoom.us/j/913…

COP30 in Belém, Brazil, marked an important step in advancing gender-responsive climate action by adopting the Belém Gender Action Plan (GAP). A nine-year framework that sets out 27 activities to advance gender-responsive climate action under the UNFCCC through 2034. It explicitly recognises structurally excluded groups, mandates guidelines to protect women environmental defenders, creates entry points to address care work and violence against women, and strengthens coherence across UNFCCC bodies. #GlobalWeekofActon #ThisWorldIsOurs #ActOntheBelemGAP #FeministClimateJustice #FeministFuturesNow

As AMwA, we engaged with the Pact for the Future because we believe it could kickstart the post-2030 agenda, one informed by the successes and lessons of the 2030 Agenda, but also honest about today’s poly-crises. Although we had hoped for stronger commitments on the feminist alternatives we have been advancing, bodily autonomy, climate justice, financing what truly works for women and girls in their diversity, and the right to development in the Global South, these remain gaps in the Pact. And that is exactly the work before us: to keep pushing until these feminist visions are no longer seen as optional add-ons, but as the very foundation of how we imagine and build the future. For Africa and for the women and girls of Africa, the pact for the future must become a living framework of reparatory justice, debt justice, and gender justice. It must repair yesterday, invest in today, and give us a tomorrow we can truly call ours. #UNGA80 #FeministEconomics

Eunice Musiime- Executive Director, Akina Mama wa Afrika. The Pact for the Future presents another opportunity for Africa to turn Promises into Action and turbocharge the SDGs. As Akina Mama wa Afrika, we do believe that global frameworks do matter and have a role to play. From the Beijing Declaration to the SDGs, every framework was considered transformative. Yet over the years, progress remains dismal, especially for African citizens, women, and girls who carry the brunt of poverty, debt, conflict, and climate shocks. We recognise that Africa has its own Agenda 2063, which provides a blueprint for our development pathway. In the development of the Pact for the Future, the African voice and aspirations were not adequately represented. To ensure that the Pact delivers on its promises, implementation and review for Africa, these critical areas must be addressed: ❇️Reparatory justice. ❇️Debt justice. ❇️Militarisation and Democracy ❇️Care as a political issue. #UNGA80

If we can’t feed ourselves, can we truly say we are free? 🌾✊🏿 This Africa Liberation Week 2025, AMwA joins the chorus of Pan-African feminist voices to ask: What does true liberation look like if we cannot feed ourselves? On 22nd May, from 3:00 PM – 5:00 PM EAT, we invite you to a virtual dialogue with feminist organizers, farmers, agroecologists, policy influencers, and food justice movements across the continent. Together, we will unpack the deep intersections between African food systems and our liberation. For generations, African women have fed the continent—yet colonial dispossession, corporate capture, land grabs, and extractive systems have robbed us of our agency. Through this dialogue and campaign, AMwA will amplify an intersectional feminist response to reclaim our land, seed, kitchens, markets, and knowledge. This space is about radical imagination, community strategy, and feminist resistance. It's a call to action: to reframe food justice as part of our generational liberation project. Join us! 📅 Date: Wednesday, 22nd May 2025 🕒 Time: 3:00 PM – 5:00 PM EAT 🔗 Register here: bit.ly/437ks95 #AfricaLiberationWeek #FoodSovereignty #FeministResistance #AMwA #PanAfricanFeminism #FoodJustice #DecolonizeOurPlates #AfricanLiberation
