On this day in 1967, Thurgood Marshall was sworn in as the first Black justice to serve on the Supreme Court of the United States.
Justice Marshall served on the United States' highest court for 24 years, leaving an enduring legacy in the pursuit of equality and justice.
Years earlier, he argued the landmark 1954 case Brown v. Board of Education, in which the Supreme Court ruled that racial segregation in public schools was unconstitutional.
His life and work helped pave the way for a more equal America, and his legacy continues to inspire us today.

99 years ago today, my Shero, Althea Gibson, was born.
Last year, we celebrated the 75th anniversary of Althea breaking the color barrier in tennis at the U.S. Open.
This year, let's continue to remember her courage and strength, and how she blazed a trail for so many to follow.

Many foreign service officers I know have been concerned the White House is going to purge the diplomatic corps. These are front line patriotic Americans doing the diplomacy Trump claims to value. The WH should think twice before getting rid of them.

From this square, I wish to address a clear message to those who take advantage of people’s desperation, to those who organize death routes, traffic in human beings, withhold documents, exploit workers, threaten women, deceive families, and turn the suffering of others into a business.
