AI's ability to make and assist important decisions is fraught: on one hand, AI *often* classifies things very well, at speed and scale outstripping any reasonably resourced group of humans. On the other, AI is sometimes *very* wrong, in ways that can be terribly harmful.

ALT A cowboy astride a racing horse, lassoing a man who is bound and gagged, his face a mask of panic. The cowboy's head has been replaced with the staring red eye of HAL 9000 from Stanley Kubrick's '2001: A Space Odyssey.' The horse is racing along a glowing platonic gridded plane as seen in the Tron movies. The background is a 'code waterfall' effect as seen in the credit sequences of the Wachowksis' 'Matrix' movies. 👇Superb new article from @apple AI: “we found no evidence of formal reasoning in language models . Their behavior is better explained by sophisticated pattern matching—so fragile, in fact, that changing names can alter results by ~10%!”

Strongly encourage you to read the whole thread.
1/ Can Large Language Models (LLMs) truly reason? Or are they just sophisticated pattern matchers? In our latest preprint, we explore this key question through a large-scale study of both open-source like Llama, Phi, Gemma, and Mistral and leading closed models, including the recent OpenAI GPT-4o and o1-series.

I still can't get over how bad AI has become. And this is coming from a computer scientist who spent over a decade studying and programming AI.
I fucking LOVE AI, but here are 10 reasons I absolutely fucking hate it now, a 🧵 ...

I won. I won my appeal.
The Luxembourg court has ruled that Jeff Dieschburg infringed upon my copyright when he used my work without consent.
Using a different medium was irrelevant. My work being 'available online' was irrelevant. Consent was necessary. 1/
weird, this post looks identical to every other shitty AI scam ad on this website
look at you, pretending you’d even fucking exist without the artists you now exploit

luckily if you switch from video games to microsoft excel and then do it for 8 hours instead of 3, none of these things happen
Holy shit, Adobe making Photoshop and Illustrator worse to use almost daily. Getting pop-ups trying to get me to use bullshit GAI features as I CLICK ON MY OWN WORK, disrupting workflow, interrupting complex selections I'm making. Any fellow creatives come across this trash?

Midjourney developers caught discussing laundering, and creating a database of Artists (who have been dehumanized to styles) to train Midjourney off of. This has been submitted into evidence for the lawsuit. Prompt engineers, your “skills” are not yours

Here is an honest and accurate breakdown of what is currently happening. I’ve seen many of the pictures and videos myself. This blatant targeting and murder of innocent people must STOP.

"plays with the very themes of the show"
The show is about aliens hiding among us, completely undetected. But anybody can smell soulless AI bullshit from a thousand miles away.
So Marvel really used AI to make the intro for #SecretInvasion… it’s actually over.

A precedent is being set right now that says that all creatives deserve a viable longterm career. Companies have been exploiting the idea of the "dream job" to their own benefit, and we don't have to accept that. The WGA's success is everyone's success!
