When formal sources of authority cede the enforcement of a civil society, those with $ will abscond to a society of their own and pay the price to ensure its civility
The losers are the good people amongst the less fortunate, economic mobility goes to 0, elite inbreeding to 100

Do you know how good life must have been?
Mercy to the guilty is cruelty to the innocent part eleventybillion
But critical theory doesn’t see the guilty, only the supposed systems that put them in place
And those “systems” can be repurposed infinite ways to support the actions that advance the critical theorists goals
I have been waiting 24 years for my neighbor David Westerfield to be executed for the kidnapping and murder of my 7-year-old neighbor, Danielle van Dam. And now thanks to @GavinNewsom, it looks like it will never happen.
I was 13 when he abducted her from her bedroom in the middle of the night in 2002. I would never equate what I experienced with what her family suffered, but Danielle's murder devastated our whole neighborhood, and me personally. I was a sensitive kid and it was a major contributor to my mental health decline in adolescence.
In the 20 days between her disappearance and his arrest, I developed insomnia and spent those nights walking around the house checking the locks on the doors and windows. I followed the trial closely. As we learned the horrific details, I couldn't stop thinking about what she endured during the 3 days he had her.
Her body was found dumped off the side of a road 25 days after she went missing. It was too decomposed to test for sexual assault, but we all knew that's why he took her. He was also convicted of possessing child sexual abuse material found on his computer.
There was never any doubt about Westerfield's guilt. There was an abundance of forensic evidence, including her blood on his clothing and in his motorhome. In 2019, the California Supreme Court unanimously upheld his conviction and death sentence. Shortly afterward, Newsom imposed his moratorium. And now he does THIS.
California voters rejected abolishing the death penalty in both 2012 and 2016, and even voted to expedite executions. All these years, I've held on to the hope that someone would eventually take office who respected the will of California voters and would allow these sentences to be carried out.
It's especially insulting to hear Newsom go on about morality, as if he is morally superior to those of us whose lives were affected by these heinous crimes and who want to see the perpetrators brought to justice. I'm hoping the California Supreme Court can stop Westerfield's commutation.
The fact that I can’t convince my wife to watch Game of Thrones with me, knowing that she’s never seen it, is just insanity
Before you evaluate any political (or business or anything) claim on the internet, ask yourself:
Does the person making the claim stand to benefit financially from making the claim?
If yes, then be suspicious, anyways the answer is yes 99.9% of the time
Surely this company with execs in the industry for 20 years don’t know any of their competitors…
let’s build Competitive Landscape slides with extremely basic info on the competitors from Google to show how qualified we are

FloTrack's #NYCMarathon coverage is presented by @SauconyRacing
My takeaway every marathon Sunday:
don’t take yourself seriously, take what you do and care about seriously
Wedding ring fell off at some point in the last 6 hours. This blows and tbh I’m pretty crushed about it
6 months has never fallen off, went to take my dog out and noticed it was gone
Remembering Halloween 2017 after I bought a house in the suburbs and bought 3lbs of candy and then no kids came by
Still mad
NYC’s most Chicago coded bar, the most beautiful day of all time, and marathon Sunday tomorrow
Sky high vibes
Ahh yes let’s regurgitate the potential client’s own market research slides into our own fun new slides (they had 3 we need 12) to show that we too think they are in a good industry and would be happy to sell their fabulous company
Poking around Zillow and see my house in FL I sold in 2021 is back up for sale but they Millennial Murdered it.

Feels like a Norm Macdonald joke tbh
Conflict places more of the care burden on women and girls' shoulders.
#Peace and security require more than their unpaid labor.
Women and girls must be at the heart of peacebuilding.

Readers added context they thought people might want to know
Men/boys are the large majority of combat deaths in conflicts — omitted. Boys also do care work — omitted. Saying women & girls must be “at the heart” of peacebuilding is prioritisation, not equality. Higher unpaid care ratios occur because men are dying or fighting.

Alex Smith says he was ashamed of his leg and bitter toward football until rehabbing alongside wounded service members changed his life
“In my rehab process, I'm so thankful I got this thing called the Secretary of Defense designation, which is this deal for civilians that are deemed to have what's called a warlike injury. And so I got access to military medical care because there were no athletes for me to look to that had gone through something like this at that point. When I had half a leg and they're moving body parts down and it was like, hey, so and so did this and came back to play. There was nobody. The only examples of any positivity were people in the military through the decades of wars in the Middle East and roadside bombs and IEDs that there were a lot of servicemen and women that had severe lower leg injuries, severe tissue loss, severe breaks. Which through the infection and the hit was kind of like where I was at”
“So I got to go down and do my rehab at this military center. It doesn't matter what branch of the military you're in. If you have a severe limb injury, this is where you go. And it's in San Antonio, Texas. And it's called the Center for the Intrepid. And it changed my life. Again, I was super ashamed of my leg. It was grotesque looking and I kept it covered. I was ashamed of it. It represented everything that I had lost. I was really kind of struggling with my new normal. And I'll never forget going down there from day one. The military believes in this thing called group suck. Doing hard things, it's better to do them together. And so when you go down to this rehab center at the Center for the Intrepid, there are no private rooms. There's just one great big open room and it's surrounded by windows and everybody does their rehab together”
“I'll never forget my first trip there again. I couldn't even stand on my leg. I got it all wrapped up. I've got this steel cage bolted keeping it together. And there's double amputees, there's triple amputees, there's terrible burn victims. And nobody is hiding behind their scars. Everything's out in the open and people are moving forward with their life. And the physical therapist, Johnny Owens, walks behind the desk and gets a football and comes back to me and he has me get down on my good knee. And again, mind you, I'm very bitter towards football at this point, and I got three young kids, two boys that love to play catch with their dad, and I have not touched a football from the day of my injury. And now this is four months later”
“He brings out a football, throws it to me again. I'm on my one good knee on the ground, and he has me start playing catch. And this is from 10 feet away. And I'll never forget the light bulb going on of like, I can still play catch. Like, what else can I still go do. And it was the only place in the world where those guys were egging me on and goading me into you can do more… And that's the first day I said I wanted to play again was that day”
