ALT A silhouetted view of the Moon as seen from the Artemis II spacecraft, with the lunar disk appearing dark against a bright halo of sunlight from behind. Part of the spacecraft, including a solar array, is visible in shadow on the left side of the frame. Credit: NASA
ALT A close-up view of the Birkhoff crater on the Moon’s far side, captured by the Artemis II crew, shows the surface under low-light conditions. Credit: NASA
ALT Captured by the Artemis II crew during their lunar flyby on April 6, 2026, this image shows the Moon fully eclipsing the Sun. In the image there is a glowing halo around the dark lunar disk. Credit: NASA
ALT Captured on April 10, 2026, this photo is an underwater view of the Artemis II heat shield after splashdown, showing a circular, tiled pattern illuminated in blue-green tones. Credit: US Navy
ALT Mid-infrared image of the Cat’s Head Nebula by Webb. A bluish-gray filament of dust is in the center, stretching from the bottom to almost the very top. It has a narrow, irregular shape that resembles a cat sitting with its back toward the viewer and a tail extending downward. The cat’s head is turned toward the right, revealing a white glowing eye. (middle) Near-infrared also by Webb. An orange-brown filament of dust is in the center, stretching from the bottom to almost the very top. On the cat’s left are ghostly filaments of dust. (center) Visible-light image by Hubble. A dark brown, opaque filament of dust is in the center, stretching from the bottom to almost the very top. Approximately halfway down, cutting diagonally across the frame, the background color changes from blue to yellow, orange, and finally red near the bottom.

ALT A partial view of the orange core stage of the Artemis III rocket standing between two white solid rocket boosters inside of the VAB. The rocket spans several stories. Platforms on each floor surround the rocket. There are railings and equipment on every level. Credit: NASA/Sean Cannon
ALT Two employees in hard hats look up as a crane lifts the 212-foot core stage of the Artemis III rocket vertically into the transfer aisle of the VAB. Dominating the center of the image are four rocket engines on the bottom of the core stage. They are covered in red caps. Credit: NASA/Sean Cannon
ALT The bottom half of the orange core stage of the Artemis III rocket is suspended vertically in High Bay 3 of the VAB as a crane moves it into place above the mobile launcher. Several levels of observation platforms are visible behind the core stage and one of the solid rocket boosters is seen below. Credit: NASA/Sean Cannon

ALT Tracks made by the rover on the reddish desert Martian surface, with two of the rover’s wheels and one of its weather instruments visible at the bottom of the frame.
ALT Official astronaut portrait of Ronald E. McNair taken in 1978. A model of a space shuttle appears behind his shoulder.
ALT The Moon, as seen by Artemis II astronauts just before they passed behind it. The edge of the visible surface of the Moon, or the limb, is visible. Just beyond that is Earth, lit like a crescent moon.
ALT Two photos side-by-side showing the Artemis I Orion heat shield on the left and the Artemis II Orion heat shield on the right. Both heat shields are seen on stands and rotated for inspection. Credit: NASA
ALT Apollo 7 lifts off from Cape Kennedy Launch Complex 34 at 11:03 A.M., EDT on Oct 11, 1968. The astronauts aboard are Astronauts Walter M. Schirra,Jr. Commander; Donn F. Eisele, Command Module Pilot; and Walter Cunningham, Lunar Module Pilot.
