This past Valentine’s Day, 71-year-old Brad Reese, proud grandson of Reese’s Peanut Butter Cups inventor H. B. Reese, posted a scathing open letter to the manager of corporate brand and editorial at Hershey, accusing the company of unforgivably altering many Reese’s products by replacing real chocolate with compound chocolate — basically using vegetable oils instead of cocoa butter to lower costs and replacing real peanut butter with “peanut-butter-style crèmes.” “And Reese wasn’t alone in feeling like everything was getting worse,” writes Rachel Handler. “Everyone in my life I spoke to agreed that something was amiss, that Reese’s — and commercial chocolate in general — didn’t taste the way it used to.” Handler would spend the next several months tumbling down a chocolate vortex, encountering dozens of eccentric characters, all disagreeing about the fundamental question of what chocolate even is and who it should be for. “I learned that — not to sound like a LinkedIn guy — what’s going on with chocolate is a parable for the modern world. That at this particularly bleak end stage of capitalism, everything we once treasured has or will lose its essential essence and MrBeast will always be involved somehow.” For our cover story, Handler takes a deep dive into the molten belly of the chocolate world. No one got my costume :( One girl commented on my eyes and I excitedly explained that I was from Dune and on spice. She got confused and said “like Zendaya?” And I sighed and said “yes… like the movie Zendaya was in”. I think this will be a bigger hit in SF.

I have such a badass lady Jessica costume I’m wearing this weekend, with insanely blue contacts so I look like I’m absolutely blasted on spice, but alas I forgot the temporary face tattoos :(

Most of you don't need some sort of bespoke soulmate. You're not very complicated. I'm different in this regard because I'm rather unusual and need to live the erotic life of the artist. To enjoy perfect love. But you should just find someone that's ok and get married

Some people get validation from constant bragging about how they don't need validation from their therapists, just tough love. I get it. We all have narcissistic needs and ways to get our supplies.

My basic outlook about badness is that being bad is not a competition. Everyone is bad in their own specific way. Who is worse is totally irrelevant - the only thing that matters is that everyone ought to take their badness seriously and be responsible for it and not disavow it

Danish State Funds Psilocybin in Coma Study Researchers at Copenhagen University Hospital have outlined plans for a state-funded study of psilocybin and apomorphine in unresponsive coma patients. They will trial whether psilocybin can improve awakening of patients within a 30-day period.  Some psychedelics researchers have sought to study the class in disorders of consciousness, but have struggled to navigate the thorny ethics around the topic. But this Danish group says it has received approvals from two national authorities.  The study is funded by Offerfonden, the Danish state fund for victims of crime and traffic incidents. When the DSM came out in 1952, the manual was a foldable 32-page pamphlet of diagnoses to inform developmental psychotherapy. At some point people started caring more about diagnosis than treatment, because the DSM 5-TR is 1,120 pages long and is mainly used by drug prescribers.

I watched Oceans by David Attenborough last night, expecting it to be a peaceful film about the wonders of the sea. And it was for the first 1/4. The rest was about the horrors of fish trawling. Every industrial fish trawling operation should be banned (firebombed).

We have to switch to low impact aquaculture that doesn’t rely on krill to feed the farmed fish and small scale local fishermen if we want fish to even exist in like 30-50 years. We’re also doing large scale ecological colonialism by depriving communities who have depended on fishing for hundreds of years. Makes me so angry.

Florida is currently raffling tickets to kill goliath groupers like Coral, after decades of protection. We are organizing to buy up the tags and save them. State residents can enter for $10. Non-residents can donate to cover tag fees. Please share. Instructions below.
My friend Coral, a young goliath grouper, resident to a reef in the Florida Keys. There were once countless groupers here, of all different species. They’ve been hunted nearly to extinction. Like the few living coral formations on her reef, she survives here in defiance of us.
