🚨 UNDERGROUND CREATIVE SPOTLIGHT 💚 In November 2023, a group of relatively unknown creatives in Benin City banded together to make a daring statement. Led by budding executive, artiste and talent manager, Gabriel Idiaghe (professionally known as “Gabby Records”); and largely inspired by the stratospheric rise of fellow BC natives, Rema and Shallipopi; this ragtag collection of mostly student artistes, producers, photographers, videographers, fashion designers and image makers in the University of Benin and environs joined forces to create “The B-Side”; an astounding 14 track LP featuring songs spanning multiple genres from Afrobeats to Hip-hop and R&B. The result? Over 100,000 organic streams, a top 150 debut on the Apple Music NG Chart, a budding community of creators, fans and enthusiasts alike; major industry co-signs; and a renewed vision for the future of Afrobeats that includes not just the creative powerhouses of Lagos, Abuja and Port Harcourt, but Benin City too. All fully independently, with nothing but sheer vision and persistence. And as it turns out, they’re only just beginning. In 2 days, on Friday the 23rd, the sequel to this acclaimed underground project aptly titled “The B-Side: SOS (Sounds Of the Soil)” drops across all digital streaming platforms. “The goal with this one is hostile takeover,” says executive producer, Gabby, as he laughs into the mic. “The last one was us testing the waters, but it performed way beyond our expectations with little to no support. With SOS, the goal is to further cement The B-Side’s position on the industry radar, and to reveal the incredible talents overflowing in ancient city of Benin to the rest of the world”.
