Ross Douthat was put on this earth to induce public fitgures to calmly, smilingly, and winsomely confess that they are psychopaths.
.@AbdulElSayed says it’s ok for MEN to be in girl’s locker rooms. Why? “Well because they are going to find out about it on the internet anyway” Completely unacceptable.

Replying to @GovernorShapiro
Governor, you can say "abortion is health care" all day and it won't alter the fact from which you wish to distract us, namely, that abortion is deliberately killing a living member of the human species--a human being and as such a bearer of profound, inherent, and equal dignity.

Modern man ceaselessly tries to Jefferson out the parts of Scripture that offend his pride, and substitutionary atonement is usually first to go. But Jesus' ministry began when John declared Him "the lamb of God who takes away the sin of the world." Jews knew what lambs are for.

This is a great parody of the kind of confident sophistry Tucker Carlson and personalities like him have mastered. There's a pattern to it of pretend confusion, unaccountable insinuation, and constant red herrings and straw men. It has proven an effective formula w/ audiences.
Would I let him babysit? Jeffrey Epstein? Yeah. I would, actually. And I know you’re not supposed to say that. I understand. But I’m fifty-seven years old. I’m not going to pretend to believe something because it makes people in Washington comfortable. “He’s a convicted sex offender.” Okay. I’m aware. But can he put together a crib? Nobody’s asked. Not one journalist has bothered to find out. Which is revealing. I mentioned this to my wife. And she became absolutely furious. Immediately. “You are not leaving our children with Jeffrey Epstein.” Our children. Exactly. American children. So why does every conversation about what’s best for them somehow end with me being told to support Israel? She said, “What does Israel have to do with this?” That’s my question. Thank you. And then she tells me she’s already hired a sitter. Really? Without consulting me? Who vetted this person? What are her views on Netanyahu? Am I allowed to know that, or is that antisemitic now? “She’s seventeen, Tucker.” Oh, so we’re sending twenty-five dollars an hour to a teenager I’ve never met, but I’m the irresponsible one. Look, I have four children. I love children. More than almost anything. Which is precisely why I refuse to let concern for their safety dictate who watches them. My wife says I’ve lost my mind. Maybe. But notice: she still hasn’t told me whether Jeffrey can assemble the crib. Instead, she canceled dinner. So now an American family can’t go to Applebee’s because I asked a question about Israel. How is that freedom?

C.S. Lewis wrote that if you aim for heaven, you will get earth thrown in, but if you aim for earth, you will get neither heaven nor earth. Few better demonstrations of this than the sexual revolution leading in a generation to the nonreligious just giving up on sex.
Want more sex? The answer isn't Tinder, but it may be Jesus of Nazareth. (i'm for sure going to be hit by lightning)

This book is terrible. These scenarios all involve this bizarre leap where the AI “intelligence” is so impressive that all power just drifts to it or is handed to it because it would be negligent not to do so, but then its “alignment” problem kills us. That is, they imagine a world in which, contrary to all human history and sociology, humans cease all disagreement about values, priorities, politics, in favor of trusting the one mechanical expert whose reasoning they can neither understand nor verify. The only way to stop it is for heroic reddit athesists to think really carefully about how to align it to their, frankly, juvenile utilitarianism. The doomsday part is just rube stuff. The theory about human impotence and machine superintelligence is a parody of Calvin’s doctrine of the bondage of the will and the sovereignty of God Is there a possibility for real harms from malware? Yes. Could there even be catastrophes? Sure. But spare me. The AI superintelligence theory proceeds from a reddit atheist anthropology that the way to the right values and priorities is being smarter. The actual evidence of human history is that integrity and loving the right things is the basis of true wisdom.
Entire books have literally been written laying out these mechanisms. I mean, you can disagree with the predictions, assumptions or probabilities, but this idea that doomers haven’t proposed (numerous) concrete pathways by which ASI may kill us all is just ignorant.

Yes, it is interesting that historicist religious relativism is almost exclusively a Western, European belief that is far more geographically predictable than Christianity which is found on every continent.
If religion is real, why does the location you’re born predict it with near perfect accuracy? (genuine question)

AI designed to mimic this kind of mind is going to act mentally impaired bc it is missing a "hemisphere." It is a faithful reflection of the value system that programmed it, in which all questions are reducible to math or game theory, & information has replaced wisdom. 3/3

Board Game Mini-Review - War of the Ring ✰✰✰✰✰ (5 out of 5 stars) This game is *brilliant*. It manages to replicate the dudes on a map experience with cards, and combines it with deckbuilding. The Tolkien card art is fantastic. The strategy is extremely deep and layered.

My son and I have played many times and it simply does not get old. We discover new strategies. Each of us alternate getting the upper hand and reworking our approach. It's based on the books, so Tolkien purists will find much to enjoy. The Fire and Swords expansion is essential.
